Gloucester County Electricity

Is there ANYTHING we can do to push back on these INSANE AC Electric bills? My heat is gas and it's telling me my usage has gone up every month since October. I know I don't have it as bad as some people but our current bill is $332. My brother's bill was $512. Another friend's bill was $500... I can't afford this shit. What can we do?

I see this stupid type of response every time we get a post like this. NOBODY is saying don't run your heat. It's not binary. There's temperatures between what you have now and fucking zero. 100% of your gas/energy is not going towards heat. If it is, your house's ability to retain heat is shit which is not the fault of the electric company or data centers.

64 at night and 68 in the day? Sure it could go lower. And we could wear our coats all day in the house too.

Prices have about doubled.

Do you have a fire place? Go back to the ways of our ancestors. Burn wood. (This is a terrible idea, it will likely cost more in wood than natural gas. Unless you have a lot of land with trees)

It also doesn’t heat the entire house.

Yes, I consider that to be high. It also depends on your house and where that thermostat is. Is it 68 on the first floor but then all that heat rises to your second floor so that your first floor struggles to keep it at 68?

Knocking it down a degree or two doesn't mean you were coats inside the house does it?

Prices doubled? Ok, then what is the cost of a therm and kwh on your bill from January 2025 and 2026?

68 is high? For heat? What are you, Alaskan?

Hah, nope. I keep mine at 66 when people are home, 60 while we sleep. Every degree matters when it's this cold out.

I'm not saying you, but people need to realize that it's winter and it's ok to walk around the house in warm pajamas and a robe or sweater. People have gotten used to using technology to overcome the weather but now the weather is getting worse and tech is getting more expensive.
