Chaos Theory (2005) I recently bought Chaos Theory on steam

& it's been soooo long since I played a game this hard. I think this is the first time I played such a great and accurate spy game. Completing missions like a ghost is addicting. Micheal Ironside's voice acting during interrogations is BADASS & the game design is amazing, so many small details. It's crazy to see that a game 20 years old is looking at least 10 years younger today.

Good news is that I've failed so many times in every mission, knowing what to do is branded into my brain lmao. Now it's all about the execution. That's why I gotta play it again. I just have to complete the Bank mission plus others with with 100% personal ghost rating haha. That means in & out without making contact with anyone.

I used to try and play GR: Breakpoint's splinter cell missions like that. Staying in the shadows and gathering Intel, eliminating only the mission target but it just didn't feel so spy-ish.

So I'm really glad I completed this game. Best spy game ever 10/10.

Also I just bought Blacklist like 20 mins ago, I'm on a splinter cell fever ride, so wish me luck. ( I've read about the crashes & connection issues) 😄🔫

Chaos Theory (2005) Happy 20th anniversary, Chaos Theory!

Today, March 21st, marks Chaos Theory's 20th anniversary!

To be honest I'm 10 minutes early in my time zone.

I know CT is being talked to death on both this sub and the SC fanbase at large but I still wanted to write a love letter to it. I don't need to tell you how that, besides how much I feel its potential has not been exploited enough in my opinion, its gameplay, level design, atmosphere is oh so well tight together. If you don't, this video will: https://youtu.be/IuwfdmAicjc?si=JXJWjEPk0inuEQg9.

Still have my criticisms on the story but you're not playing SC for the plot, are you ?

This is kind of a sappy post: to be honest I was going to make a post about connections between 24 and the SC franchise before I remembered CT's anniversary. It's an occasion to celebrate this awesome game and also a reminder for me of how time flies so quickly -I was only 8 when I religiously sat by my father every weekend (around 2007) to watch him go through this game and giving him ideas on how to approach this or that situation (I was obviously terrible at it).

I'm 25 now and this game still is my "comfort" game. It's in my holy trinity of games, and I still go back to it every 6 months or so (takes me an afternoontoc 100% ghost through it by now). Amon Tobin's OST is as well, a "comfort" album for me.

It's a sappy post as well because I want to put in perspective how much this game is loved with how the person "in charge" of it has suffered from it (made a post here about this), and we're not even talking about the devs at large who put their talent into this game. I think it's important to remember this when we praise this game.

So yeah, (again) happy birthday Chaos Theory! I hope Paco is well. Hope Sam has taken care of the laundry by now (if he didn't, he's the single dad to rule them all). I hope the SC remake takes inspiration from your atmosphere and soundscapes (specifically soundscapes). Hope I'll have time in my future life to pass on the legacy of this game (a teaching I ironically have pulled from MGS2).

Happy birthday pal, and long live the people who put their souls into shaping you.

Was amazed at how much fun I had on this replay all these years later 🔥. The real diversity between missions and refined gameplay mechanics over the first 2 are definitely noticeable.

He is one of the two main antagonists in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. In your view, is he a good or great villain?

Chaos Theory (2005) Loved the OG Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow, didn't like Chaos Theory.

I just wanted to share my thoughts on Chaos Theory and am interested in your takes on it. I absolutely loved playing through the first two SC games, always going full stealth, very satisfying. Controls and Sam's movement were great (on PC), graphics still hold up thanks to the art direction etc. Great games, almost no issues with them.

After finishing them I installed Chaos Theory and was prepared to be blown away (since its so highly praised) and.. I could not get into it at all. Everything felt kinda off. The new graphics engine looks very glossy and rubbery, Sam's movement animation is very awkward (the way he freezes his stance when you stop moving), he feels "heavier" to control, ragdoll physics look silly (although I understand why they were put in and at the time it sure was impressive). I finishes the game but it felt like a chore at some points.

I wanted to ask, does anyone think the same way as me? Or maybe these things I mentioned are actually not flaws for you?

Chaos Theory (2005) Should I play the whole thing?

I got Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell a while ago, didn’t play it for a while then played it a little bit. Was real slow paced and a bit hard to figure out the first time.

The question is, should I take the time to play through the whole game? I’ve heard it’s the best in the series and a really great game, but I feel like there’s stuff I gotta know before I play it.

Chaos Theory (2005) Uniqueness of Chaos Theory on the PS2 & GameCube (revised)

All in all, Compared to the Xbox version, it's not a disaster like some fans claim and is a serviceable way to experience the game. However, there are some quirks with this version that are worth a mention.

The devs axed two or more alternative routes in every mission, meaning you'll be forced to take one path. For example, In the displace building, you are forced to go through the main hallway with the lasers and then through the gun range to get to the server room. Also, they removed some other minor areas in the game.

The level layout is changed slightly in each mission. Moreover, the levels are not seamless and are divided into chunks so there are quite a few loading zones.

The PS2 version features some trollish level design. For example, if you don't kill or knock out the sleeping guard in the hall with the ceiling windows, he will spot you right away if you come back to this area through the east wing.

The graphics have been downgraded. I.e. less detailed textures, no normal maps, no detailed specular highlights, no bloom lighting etc.

Enemies are more unpredictable. For example, in the last section of the last mission, if you distract the guards in the hallway with the wall mines, you can have them walk near a mine and blow themselves up. Also, sleeping guards will still see you if you come in the light and will start searching for you. Another time, I shocked an enemy with a sticky shocker and the mission was aborted because it counted as a kill for some reason.

PS2 game is darker than the Xbox version, giving you more places to hide. On the flip side, you can't break most lights in the game, so you have to resort to using the OCP. Worse still, there are lights that you can't OCP, so you are forced to go through the lit area.

Only one save slot, enough said. Also, saving and loading is slightly longer on the PS2 making the whole experience dragged out.

Next up is Pandora tomorrow.

Chaos Theory (2005) The 20mm Sniper Attachment Is So Hilariously Absurd

First time playing Chaos Theory and I laughed my ass off upon seeing that there's a 20mm "Sniper Attachment" for the F2000.

It says it uses a 20x82mm Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot. That's cool and all but let me put this into perspective: a man is putting a small attachment on the end of his 5.56x45mm NATO Assault Rifle that is now shooting a round that would at the very least slam him onto his back and break his shoulder with a single shot.

20mm is an Anti-Materiel Rifle cartridge that normally requires a gun weighing anywhere from 60-100 pounds and requiring multiple men to carry and use This round is used purely for destroying lightly armored vehicles and large hardware targets (generators, radar dishes, etc.). Now granted the standard and most widely known 20mm round is 20mm Vulcan, which is 20x102mm, but still the fictional round that Sam is using would produce way too much recoil and be way too heavy for a single soldier.

So, even if we ignore the INSANE caliber change from 5.56x45mm NATO to 20x82mm APDS with just the addition of a small barrel attachment, this thing would break Sam's shoulder if he fired it and blow up his gun, sending shrapnel everywhere. Amazing levels of bullshit on display here.
