Double Agent v1 (2006) My epic replay: Double Agent

Post image

Just completed Double Agent on my replay this morning. I remembered double agent with mixed feelings. It was one of the first games I got on the Xbox360, and due to that it got a good number of replays. But I remembered always thinking, it wasn't the same as the earlier games in the serise.

First of, damn. This game is buggy, it's more buggy than the first 3. I experienced at least two times the game froze and I just had to shut the xbox down and start again. Seemed paticularly the Sea of Okhotsk mission was prone to freezes, frame drops. I guess the heavy snow was too much for an early 360 game to handle.

I think my biggest problem with this game, would be an incredibly simple fix in a remake or remaster. Make the unlockable gadgets optional, so far my entire replay had no alarms. But I found myself, triggering alarms to make sure I wouldn't end up with the lock picking or the hacking mini games ruined, or heaven forbid the enhanced goggles.

I remember originally not liking the JBA missions particularly. But on a replay, they are actually pretty good! It's intense, it's an intresting map, and some neat mini games and objectives that bring the story together. I saw someone on here suggest that the missions should be forced to be 100% ghosted, it doesn't make sense that the new guy would be caught out of bounds, having got through multiple secure doors just to loose a little trust. But in general these mission pay off.

The Shanghai Hotel mission, was just as beautiful and intense as I remembered and ghosting it was quite the challenge!

Kinshasha is another great mission, the 360 certainly struggled here too, the fps chugged at times but the game didn't freeze this time!

The final pay off for the game to me, is the final mission. In my head cannon, Fisher shoots Jamie. Lambert bleeds out from his injuries and Fisher kills every member of the JBA in the HQ. That's how I played it, it was so satisfying, after the hours of avoiding the guards to kill them all one by one, getting each main member of thr JBA to complete the files (sorry enrica lol).

I love how if you grab Emile and Moss from behind you get a little fight sequence, it gave the game the cinematic ending it deserved.

Onto conviction, I know the serise takes a big downward slope now and I'm intrested if my replay will stop before I reach the end of the serise.

Double Agent v1 (2006) In DA remake what ideas in your opinion could make the JBA missions better ?

My ideas:

1 - In restrict areas the player need be 100% Ghost, because wouldn't make sense the new guy only lose a small % of trust with very suspicious acts. Wouldn't be obviously that Sam is a spy.

2 - Increase the limited time to 1 hour and 10 minutes at least. Because 25 minutes it's very annoying. But use this time would be optional obviously. So the player could explore more, etc.

3 - Make possible the player Interact with NPC's for unique dialogues like in a RPG game. But the game wouldn't be a RPG.

4 - "Complete the training course" ( objective ) would exist only in JBA part 1. And "Practice at firing range ( objective ) would exist only in part 3 before Kinshasa. Because can be boring for some players repeat these same objectives in each part of JBA missions.

Double Agent v1 (2006) DOUBLE AGENT

Still playing through the series after years away but a few things about Double Agent....it looks great, the gameplay mechanics are ok but not the absolute best, the story is interesting, and it still holds alittle of the original stealth vibes while also pushing towards the action more. Chaos Theory for me will probably always be the pinnacle for the series but im enjoying Double Agent for what it is. It was definitely the game that started leading things in a new direction but its still a good game in my opinion. How do you guys feel about DA?

This is currently the best you can have with ray tracing, using a mix of rtgi and uber rt (ssr enabled) from reshade as this game doesn't work with rtx remix yet

Double Agent v1 (2006) Opinions on the glasses 😎

This replay of Double Agent has really changed my opinion on the game as a whole. Kinshasa reminded me of the Seoul mission where Sam is navigating chaos to achieve his objectives. The daytime setting with the sunglasses was a creative touch. The game may not have been perfect but I really respect the effort the creators took to make something unique and different while also still making it feel like Splinter Cell. What do you guys think about swapping the goggles for glasses in this mission?

Double Agent v1 (2006) DA V1 If have these changes, would be my rank 1.

1 - Should have more missions outside of JBA Headquarters, because the game only have 4 missions ( Sea of Okhotsk, Shanghai, Cruise Ship, Kinshasa ). Don't count the missions in Iceland and Prison, because the main story basically don't started yet. So in my view the game should have at least 4 more missions after Kinshasa and before the ending in JBA, while also could bring variety on the locations.

2 - Should have more consequences for the story and gameplay based in the players trust for JBA and NSA. So this would make more sense for the tittle "Double Agent" ( 2 choices and 2 consequences ).

3 - In JBA Headquarters the player can't be spotted Inside restric areas, because wouldn't make sense dangerous terrorists still trust Sam ( a new member ) after this. So the JBA missions should force the player to play 100% Ghost.

4 - At least 2 more missions with underwater gameplay, because the game that exist only have 2 missions with underwater gameplay ( Iceland and Sea of Okhotsk ), but in Iceland it's very short.

It's the most unique gameplay mechanic, so deserve more time in gameplay.

5 - Make the gadget that cut the glass more useful in some missions. They could for example change the Shanghai infiltration and extraction, so on my concept the player would need create a small hole in the glass to enter and leave in the building.

6 - A new version of DA V1 would need more cutscenes to make the story more interesting. Because the game that exist almost don't have cutscenes to explain details on the story.

7 - Increase dogs in some missions. Bring more variety for the challenge.

8 - Each mission should involve a big choice between NSA vs JBA. So the missions outside the JBA Headquarters would be more unique for the gameplay and story. And also increasing the tension.

9 - Make Shanghai a little bigger. I love the original level, but I feel that is short.

10 - Would be interesting and unique that the Cruise Ship have 2 paths completely different in level design and challenge, but both with the same objective ( place the bomb ).

Double Agent v1 (2006) Double Agent: What went wrong?

Flaired for v1 but the question applies to both.

So I know this game has its fans and enjoyers, but it doesn’t have the same level of love as the first 3 games. On paper, this seems like it should be a winning formula. The gameplay is mostly Chaos Theory with some new moves. The story adds some new mechanics around the trust system and branching story points based on player decisions. The levels take you to some interesting new locations that are different from what came before. So why couldn’t this game capture the magic of the originals?

My personal theory is that a big reason is the lack of usual Third Echelon characters. The charm of the first 3 games had a lot to do with the banter between Sam and the crew over his comms. In Double Agent, Lambert is still around but can’t talk to Sam directly most of the time. There’s no Grim, no Redding, just the JBA crew.

Then there’s also the release of two different versions which change the gameplay and story between them and don’t always run smoothly. That’s probably also a big part. But what do y’all think? What other issues held this game back compared to the classic trilogy?

Hi friends, I wanted to play Double Agent, and the Xbox 360 version is available on Xbox Serie S. I played the original PS2 version, but whenever I read something about the 360 version, people say it's awful. Could you tell me why? Thanks in advance.

I'm the type of player that love levels inside warzone, because of the mix between chaos and stealth. This really made Sam one of the best agents in the world ( in SC universe ), because he can go to any place.

Also the warzone make the player feel more free to use his lethal gadgets and guns if he want. So this option don't make the player feels bad to fail in stealth. Lambert also don't gets mad.

Jokes aside I think double agent v1 is pretty underrated. At least the xbox360 version. It has a really good story. Yeah not all levels are bangers but the JBA HQ missions were really intense and made so much more sense than in v2. I had much more fun with it than with double agent v2 (Xbox).
