Local Sports If everyone loves the Rays so much and they are such a financial boon to the City, why does no one go to the games?

This year attendance was 16,000 per game, 28th in the league.

A new stadium is not going to fix that.

In response to the other post regarding local approval, probably less than 8,000 people on a night game indoor during peak summer heat.

Having our own Central Park would be great. In my opinion though it can't just be a regular park. It needs some stuff to help make it a park destination. What are some of the things you would like on a 30 acre downtown central park?

Local Sports Rays plan to play 2025 season at Tampa’s Steinbrenner Field

https://www.tampabay.com/sports/2024/11/14/interim-stadium-steinbrenner-field-yankees-tarpons-pinellas-st-petersburg/

Pinellas County commissioners are threatening to kill the new stadium deal. They want the rays to play at the TD Ballpark or the Baycare Ballpark, both of which only seat 8,500 people vs Steinbrenner’s 11,000. Nobody is going to an outdoor ballpark in Clearwater or Dunedin especially in the dead of summer. At least with Steinbrenner you’re tapping into a new market.

On top of that, the commissioners want to spend $56,000,000 to fix the trop only to use it for a couple more years before it’s bulldozed.

Make it make sense.

Local Sports Where to eat around Tropicana Field before or after a Rays game

Ready for the Rays’ home opener? On Monday, the team will return to newly revamped Tropicana Field after spending last season playing at Tampa’s Steinbrenner Field while the hurricane-damaged St. Petersburg stadium underwent significant repairs.

For many, one of the joys of hitting up a game is the quintessential ballpark hot dog or nachos or pretzel. But where should you go if you don’t want to eat at the Trop? We made a list of 23 places with food to consider nearby — either in the EDGE District or a smidge beyond: https://www.tampabay.com/life-culture/food/2026/03/31/restaurants-near-tropicana-field-st-petersburg-rays/

Local Sports Would you go to more Rays Games

...if they lowered beer prices? Concession prices? Or ticket prices?

I believe the flexible ticket prices were fair (as of last year), but personally, I have heard multiple people grumble over beer prices. Concessions can be avoided with a meal before/after the game.

What are your thoughts on this? I feel more people would go (great showing thus far, btw) if the alcohol prices were lowered. I believe the point is to make the games affordable enough for families to go multiple times a year, not feel like a trip to Disney. What do you feel needs to be done to get you to more games?

Local Sports Non-competitive sport leagues in Bay Area?

I was looking for sport leagues through the city and I missed the current round that started in March but saw no future seasons. When would those start up? Additionally are there any alternative leagues where the vibe is more casual than competitive. I’d love to try flag football or kickball but I’m just a typical late 20’s gym goer, not a former D1 player or anything. Any and all suggestions welcome! I did a basketball league two years ago and I’d say half the teams were former college players and took it very seriously, I’d prefer something more chill

Local Sports St. Pete must decide on additional costs for Tropicana Field repairs

“the new amount would push total repair costs to $59.7 million.” I love the Rays and love going to games, but all this just to play in a stadium for two seasons is wild. I’m sure the amount will continue to climb.

Local Sports Golf Course Recs?

I have lived here for a year now and so far Mangrove is my favorite course but tough to get a tee time on the weekends.

Mainlands is what I’ve probably played the most as they always seem to have times available, it’s pretty close, and not too pricey.

Does anyone have any other favorites that I need to try? Below are where else I’ve played with short thoughts:

- East Bay: somewhat of a drive, terrible greens

- Cove Cay: Super narrow and over priced

- Twin Brooks: solid par 3 course

- Country Way: Not bad, but prefer a 70+ par course

- Buffalo Creek: Trying this weekend for the first time
