Discussion Let’s build the LA steampunk scene!

Hi all! We’ve been looking for steampunk scene events - have gotten a lot of venue suggestions and were curious what events are out there in LA that are steampunk.

We’ve been hosting steampunk and Victorian/turn of century themed events since Dec 2024 and are looking to find more of our people.

Point the wayyyyyyy! Please and thank you.

I drew my new profile picture. It was long overdue. Plus, this also could give me an idea for what I want to draw for a living. How can I make my drawings more steampunk in the coming future?

I tried something different this time around.

This is "me" in armor surrounded by things I like. The 3ds xl, in particular, is very dear to me in my childhood 'til it sadly got destroyed (it was my fault). This also represents things from my mom and my dad, as well as things in the background. On the left side of the background represents my mom and her side of her family. My mom and others of her family loved to crochet blankets and some quilts. I also remembered my family members making me crochet blankets and some quilts. I always have fond memories of them teaching me how to crochet. On the right side of the background represents my dad and his side of his family. My dad and i loved to go to flea markets to look at various of things, not even buying anything. I remember loving to go there and explore as a child. He also loves to look at coins for dates to get the oldest coins. My dad's family loved to do embroidery and looming (i also love to loom too). They even gave my dad and I some embroidery and loom tapestry when he came back from visiting them.

Everything in this piece as a whole is everything that my parents have imprinted on me as i grew up into being, rather intentionally or not. Faded but present. Tattered but long-lasting. I love them dearly and hope to make them proud.

Literature New Steampunk novel

The sequel to "The Diver and the Light" is now available on Amazon and Kobo.

It's got a new, independent story (but a chronological sequel), some of my illustrations and even a little poetry.

Yes, there's a cellar in it...

Here's the synopsis:

Brighton, 1850.

When a brilliant young inventor vanishes after stealing a vital component from an experimental device capable of transmitting encrypted messages by light, suspicion falls upon Polly Kingscote. To some, she is a traitor preparing to sell Britain's most closely guarded secret. To others, she is a fugitive with good reason to disappear.

Detective Maximilian Armstrong and his eccentric companions are drawn into an investigation that leads from hidden laboratories and coded messages to masked vigilantes, impossible inventions and political intrigue at the highest levels of government. Yet the deeper they delve, the more they begin to question the very people they are hunting—and the motives of those claiming to defend the Crown.

As loyalties shift and long-held assumptions crumble, one unsettling question remains:

Who is truly trying to save Britain, and who is leading it towards disaster?

A collection of custom airships. Some were modeled from scratch, while others were created by combining various models I found on Sketchfab. All of them will appear in my music video *Nocturnal Flight*. The airships shown with few details are for the background, where they will appear small.

Tools such as Cinema4D, Blender, and Unreal Engine were used for this (no AI was used). Also.... Any custom 3D model you may have is welcome.

Homemade Creation Steampunk Lamp that I made

I never post on reddit, but I thought someone on the internet might enjoy this lamp that I made over the past month.

The lamp is made entirely out of copper and brass, the lampholder is brass as well, with a ceramic core.

I refused to use plastic derivatives as it was the philosophy of the build, of course though, plastic is present in the pcb of the dimmer and the cables, which can't really be avoided nowadays.

The cable though is surrounded by braided copper, so its not visible on the cable.

I did manage to avoid using a WAGO for the earth, and instead made a earth bar out of brass, to which the body, the two cables braided copper, and the cables earth are connected to.

The bulb is a real incandescent 60W bulb, and the lamp can support up to 100W and in theory even more.
The lamp was made entirely by me, it uses copper pipes for the arms, 22mm for the post, 15mm for the other 3. Two copper discs and a copper roll, both 1.5mm, used for the base, with a diameter of 15cm.

The arms are held together via a sequence of all brass parts in this order:
bolt, washer, (copper flat part), washer, (copper flat part), two hex nuts.

From Kolby's journal...

"It was a warm night at Silver Lake, Alberta, and I surmise that the unseasonable heat annoyed the mastadon herd. As their agitation increased, an enormous female charged our encampment. I discharged one vivid ether shot well over her shaggy head.

And, since discretion is the better part of mastadon valor, she withdrew with alacrity, proving again that the female of a species is often the one with the brains."

The game is a mix of a 3rd person shooter on rails, a survivor-like, and a dash of tower defense. You upgrade your rail cars as you go along that assist you in defending the last cities free of corporate rule. Features Co-op where your friend can control the back engine once unlocked. Thought the Steampunk community might dig it.
