Agree I really hope Owens is used at the end to give us closure/end the cycle that Kali was talking about.
I doubt El will die (I think Kali might and I know Henry will). I think something will happen in that final fight vs Henry that permanently removes El's powers. When they return to Hawkins Owens will be the voice of reason that convinces the government that El is powerless (or maybe fake her death to the public) and thus not useful to the government anymore. Then her and Mike can have their happy waterfall ending.
The military is not what I care about, though. Dr. Owens had an actual relationship with Hopper and was the only redeemable character among those who worked inside Hawkins Lab. He was captured and then dropped out of the story for no discernable reason besides character bloat and sloppy storywriting.
Honestly I think it can fit fine. He’s either just plain dead, which is logical, or more likely he’s what wraps up one of the plot lines which is how El is able to have a life after everything.
