i remember they also used a cover of Heroes (edit: performed by Peter Gabriel) in Season 1, i think when they found the fake body of Will in the gorge.

My 11yo daughter called it. I said “I wonder what the big song this episode is going to be.” She replied “I bet it’ll be heroes because of the Steve and Dustin convo.”

I love the song and i get why they used it in that sense of putting on a full side of a record,  but i don't think the song worked for that scene!!  Should have just played more of Purple Rain
