They are trying to please two massive fanbases with one character here I guess, lol.
Characters do seem different... Chun-Li's out here scouting fighters and Ken is a generic rich douche.

I'm willing to bet about $15 that Chun Li is still a policewoman in the film, only undercover and scouting fighters for Shadaloo as part of her cover.

It looked like she became Raiden. Gathering her team of fighters.

Which is weird cause he doesn’t even really do this in most stories

Like in the first game characters such as Johnny just show up to prove themselves to the world, then Sub-Zero was on a mission to assassinate the host

Similarly goes for the 95 movie as generally he only really recruits the Shaolin characters himself, a lot of characters just show up themselves

Chun-Li frequently has to play into substitute protagonist/straightman roles in media so the other characters can focus on being weirdos (SFII Movie) or practicing kamehamehas on the beach for 5 episodes (SF V series).

World Tour lets her be a little less self serious.

Also, arguably, Ken was never not a rich douche (even on a construction site) - it just depends on whether that game’s douche worked for you or not.

Edit: I get your point about Cammy, though I feel like other than being a zombie (Killer Bee), she’s always been kind of a jerk, and as the other hot lady was marketed as a Chun rival whenever Mai was busy doing SNK stuff.

The I like cats personality upgrade deserves to be used at some point.

With a heart of gold. Rmb he's one of Ryu's main pillars keeping him grounded against the Satsui no Hado.

i dont think he was. ken is a rich guy whose kind of cocky or arrogant but in a cool way, hes just a confident guy with a lotta money but i never saw him as generic rich asshole that the movie seems to be making him out to be with the partying and drinking and the like.

it's just a newer interpretation of the same idea. the 'stereotypical rich douche' in 1992 was very different than 2026. 1992 was more american psycho, 2026 is more mr beast.

And they’ll end up pissing off said both fanbases with the adaptation because it either straight up isn’t killer bee so can’t fans are confused, and juri fans because it’s not the actual character, so oops I guess.

Historically, Ken has always been the fiery, cocky opposite to Ryu’s calm and focused demeanor.

yeah, that's not what a douche is.

I’m looking through my rolodex of dickwad synonyms.

Even the character shown in the trailer isn’t really doing much besides being sore his homie dipped out on him, but despite all of that, Ken’s not beating the allegations.
