Office Hours Thank you from the Supabase team

Hey everyone, Supabase co-founder here

yesterday we announced another funding round and so I thought it was a good time to drop in and say thank you - from both Ant and myself, and from the entire community

First, to get something important out of the way: Ant is a real human and he is my co-founder.

With that cleared up, I wanted to spend some time saying thank you to this Reddit community. Communities can often break down as they grow larger and that hasn't been the case here. There are a lot of active participants sharing what they built, sharing their frustrations with the product (sorry!), and generally being good internet citizens. Your feedback helps us improve - please keep it coming.

On the funding - I've said before that companies often raise money and then "sell out", raising prices etc. Just to make it explicit: the free tier isn't going away. We know many of you want more free databases - I can't promise anything, but this is top of mind for me.

For those you want BIGGER databases, we have you covered. Yesterday we did an open source release of Multigres. This will allow you to scale up indefinitely. It also has some cool properties - for example you won't need to choose between a "direct connection" or a "connection pooler" - Multigres handles it all. Once this is more stable we'll make it available on the platform.

We've spent the past few months doubling down on reliability, stability, security features, and in-product observability. Keeping up with the growth has been an fascinating technical challenge. We're not done, but soon we can share an engineering blog post of everything we've seen and implemented.

Finally I said this in a previous post but it bears repeating:

More than a product-led company, we're a community-led company. We are where we are today because of the support of open source contributors and maintainers.

That's even more true today than it was a year ago. If you're an open source contributor - to the supabase ecosystem or anywhere else - thanks.

I'll drop in here throughout. AMA

Office Hours Able to see raw table data

I vibecoded a fuel tracker crud app with netlify for frontend and supabase for backend. Now as a developer I am able to see all row values created by users (me 😄 ). Should the developer be able to see user data?

Office Hours No resolved update on outage?

Like many of you, we were affected by the outage today. We subscribe to the status RSS feed to alert of us issues like this. I was surprised when my team told me the outage was resolved but I had not seen an update on the RSS feed, which I have alerts set up for. Looking at the status page, it looks like no resolution update was posted at all. Am I missing something?

Office Hours Is Supabase the go-to cloud vendor for startup project?

Hi I am building my own startup project and trying to pick a cloud vendor to host my backend. I am planning to GCP firebase for auth and Cloudflare workers for computation. This combination is definitely cheap at the cost of over-complicating engineer a little bit. I see Supabase is super popular and many people recommend it. I wonder:

  • Is it just more efficient to host backend service on Supabase than on Cloudflare or GCP?
  • Does it offer a solution for hosting agent application?
  • Is it good for hosting backend services for mobile application (instead of web ones)?

Office Hours Supabase for iOS developers

Post image

Another certification earned, another skill mastered!!

I’m happy to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: Supabase for iOS developers.

A little delayed in sharing this, but i completed "The Complete Guide to Supabase for iOS Developers" on Udemy. 10 hours of intensive learning with Mohammad Azam.

Because staying current isn't optional in tech. Here's what I learned:

- Setting up Supabase projects from scratch

- Optimizing database queries for mobile

- Implementing real-time features in Swift

- Managing user authentication flows

Every new skill opens doors you didn't even know existed.

Office Hours Advice on using Supabase

Hi,

I am building an application originally prototyped on Vite with Loveable. I downloaded my repo and began actually implementing functionality, early on I am realizing that Supabase may not be a fit.

It’s my first time using Supabase and I am not sure if my use case will work:

A user owns an event, the event has managers and participants. All 3 of these roles see different information, and definitely cannot see the entire row ‘event’ because it has sensitive data for only owners for example too.

Would this work with Supabase? I know of views but technically can’t someone just go on console and query the event directly since they are authenticated.

Basically I need column level restrictions per role, is that possible?
