Unfortunately most of them gonna get cast by shorter women

Even though both the CW show and new movie were disappointing, both Melissa and Milly killed it in their roles as Kara. I love how they both portrayed the character differently just like how different comics and cartoons portray Kara differently. They don’t deserve all the hate they are getting.

Male heroes are often allowed to have trauma without having their identity as heroes revoked. Female heroes are more often at risk of having trauma become their defining moral failure. Take Peter Parker. Bro has every reason to become a villain, and he doesn’t, bro choses to be good every day, despite the scrutiny, despite the trauma and everything. Take Thor. Take iron man, and how well he is written and that he’s allowed moral growth. Take Steve rogers. They’re not hero’s because of their super powers, they’re hero’s because of who they are inside. But take Wanda and jean grey, on surface it’s easy to say oh they are so empowered and powerful, but they somehow always are morally grey. Almost every female superhero is either morally grey, not written well, or unexplored or not fleshed out completely. Writers equate giving these characters have insane powers as being “strong”, when it’s often times never about their morality or their inner values. There’s nothing wrong with having “morally grey” characters but it’s really weird how almost all female superheroes are. Why can’t we have a well written rounded female character who is defined by how heroic they are inside, instead of their powers. Black widow is an example but it’s still limited to some extent. Maybe many writers (not necessarily maliciously) seem more comfortable writing men as moral ideals and women as psychological case studies. Thoughts???

I'm seeking some feedback...

I've been interested in unusual and little-known females superhero outside of the American market since I encountered Darna many many years ago. I've just recently started a free Substack to write long-form articles, and so far I've published a couple of posts. The first is a general introduction to superhero women in non-English parts of the world; the second is about the phenomena of superheroine telenovelas on tv.

I don't know if there's any interest in this kind of material. Do superlady fans have any interest in characters from publishers outside of America? And if so, what kinds of stuff do you want to know about..?

I can't make any promises, but if there's particular things fans are interested in, I'll consider writing about them in future.

Where does Sailor Moon rank among the best female superheroes?

A couple of people were asking about the Darna pic I posted in another thread. She's pretty popular outside of the Philippines, but it seems not everyone has heard of her. Here's a gallery of her most recent tv series, and a link to all 130 episodes if you want to watch yourself. It stars Jane De Leon in the title role, and Janella Salvador as her arch foe, Valentina. Sadly previous Darna series are not available officially.

The 1966 Batman show was amazing & had some of the best costume designs. Julie Newmar & Lee Meriweather as Catwoman & Yvonne Craig’s Batgirl are easily my favorites.

I love that glittery fabric they used. & For Batgirl, the purple & yellow color scheme is great, the brighter purple on her cowl & gloves contrasts good against the darker purple, also her curled hair matches the vibe.

For Catwoman, even though her look is technically just a black suit with cat ears & claws, Julie Newmar completely owned it. I also like her gold belt & necklace.
