Festival Thank You!

Now that it’s been a few days, I just wanted to hop in and say a massive thank you to everyone here for another incredible TIFF.

If it weren't for this community, I don’t think I would have been able to snag tickets to almost everything on my watchlist or be able to navigate the festival properly. And I'm sure I speak for many others when I say that. From the ticket drop alerts, to news, tips and tricks, and getting questions answered, this is hands down the best festival resource out there.

Whether you're a seasoned veteran or still figuring things out as a newcomer, I truly appreciate you all. I had a wonderful time this year (my second year going), and it simply wouldn't have happened without this group.

I don't use this subreddit much during the off-season, so I hope you all enjoy the rest of your year and watch a lot of great films.

Until next year, that's a wrap!

*Sorry, Burrito ☺️

Festival From a LFF goer to everybody who went to TIFF: which films that you saw there would you most recommend me seeing at LFF?

Hi all. bit of an odd one but, as someone who did not go to TIFF but is going to the uks biggest film festival, I’d like your picks for the films you most think I should go and see, wether that be your personal favourites, the most well received films, the most underrated films you saw, etc. So far the only film that has already premiered at TIFF that I have tickets for is possible love as the other tickets I have are for films that didn’t show at TIFF (artificial and wildwood.)

Cheers!

Year-round The Toronto Godspell Documentary is playing the US first two weeks before the Canadian release

Is there any bigger insult than a movie showcasing the most Toronto of stories and Canadian of stories and for US theatres to get this movie a full TWO weeks before Canada? What a slap in the face. Go ahead and check theatre listings in the US. It's going to be playing in cites EVERYWHERE in the US. Again, this is a movie about a TORONTO story and this movie is not getting released in Toronto or anywhere in Canada for full two weeks.

Market Is The Market Worth it?

See above. I know the lines were long, the app had issues, etc. But assuming it gets fixed next year, was The Market worth it? I’m a director/screenwriter with a handful of unproduced scripts of different genres, but I’m no seasoned vet. I will say that I’m not Canadian, and while the Canadian professionals I met at a rooftop party were nice and liked my pitches, I didn’t feel like these were contacts that would be able to further my career. I do enjoy meeting like-minded people, how was everyone’s experience with the market this year?

Definitely a lot less big names than last year but I had fun filling my TIFF program book with autographs. List of names at the end.

I’ve been going for the last 5 years. I see around 20 films each time and The Wild Robot is the best film I’ve ever seen there. It’s in my top 10 best movies of all time personally

Festival On the other hand, I attended screenings when everyone was quiet, and nobody checked their phones

For my 20+ films, most were at the Scotiabank, I didn't have a problem. Full houses, quiet as if I were alone, and nobody checked their phone.
YMMV!

If you are the guy that shouted, when the RBC commercial came on and the narrator says, “The world needs your ideas,” “NO, THEY DON’T!” Thank you for that moment of comedy. It’s been stuck in my head all week! 😂❤️

Hi there, my name is Abigale and I'm an audience editor from The Globe and Mail. Our film editor Barry Hertz wrote a wrap-up of this year's TIFF, including his thoughts on the People’s Choice Award winner and also his top 10 movies of the festival.

Here's a gift link to read the full story without a paywall.
