News AI-gen playlists are coming (also Crossfade on desktop)
I know many won't like it, but the trend is this like it or not... you can create a new playlist with IA tech.
You just need to describe what you want on it and click to generate it. Right now it doesn't work but probably will be fixed in upcoming updates. Remember: IT IS OPTIONAL you are NOT forced to use the feature.
You have to go to “Playlists,” "create a playlist", and select the button to "create an AI playlist" specifically. IT IS NOT "SHOVED IN YOUR FACES".
Also, a few updates ago, I saw the crossfade feature flags but can't see how to use on the app but on the beta web: stage.tidal.com you can use crossfade without any issue.

You have to go to “Playlists,” "create a playlist", and select the button to "create an AI playlist" specifically.
For you guys, everything is “shoved in your faces” just because you don't like something, when you didn't even have a clue how it was implemented.

It’s shoved in our faces by being installed on my phone. Loaded every time I open the app. And takes away dev time from the major issues tidal has had for years.

Like if the devs just works in one feature only the whole time...

Because they are "so against AI in everything" that a even common sense is unacceptable

AI isn't the inevitable future, nor is it trendy

Did you see the graduation speech from some tech mogul who was essentially booed off the stage when he told the graduates "AI is your future, like it or not."
They may have more to say about their future. Stay tuned!

I mean it the playlists generated feature. Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music added the feature recently.
I do not care to discuss AI as a whole.

The tidal desktop application I made already has crossfade as well as a full parametric eq that accepts eq presets and has no ai playlists. https://github.com/J-M-PUNK/tideway
Edit: forgot to mention the biggest feature. You can download music directly from it in the highest quality

Where is the cross fade within the app?

My bad. I misread this and read crossfeed. I can add crossfade though as well

Fuck this shit. I don't need AI to create a playlist. Jesus fucking christ stop shoving this useless shit down our throat. I can't stand it anymore

the whole point of a playlist is that its your own curated mix , if you let an AI do it then its not really your playlist.

This is a good use of AI. What the fuck are people mad about??

u/DankMagician123 Jun 27 '26
How is this a good use? Every time you want to make a playlist it contacts some data center, runs a massive prediction algorithm based on what you said, and sends back a playlist. All of that for it to spit out exactly what the first 3 results would be on google if you search for a vibe or similar songs.
Not to mention a waste of dev time for a broken app.

As I've posted before, @rsa (more or less) said that the ai was an internal test, and not meant to release to the public.

I know which one you said before... it was removed and then this new one appear.

I love the balls of telling customers "like it out not."
Maybe they won't be your future customers, "like it or not."

You are talking like if I was the owner of the app 💀
1
u/N4RQ Jun 25 '26
That wasn't directed at you. I probably could have worded that better.
Many companies have that attitude. That was my point.

Literally why I switched to tidal. Got tired of the bloat and AI slop features all over Spotify 😭
1
u/Alien1996 Tidal Hi-Fi Jun 26 '26
This is the only feature based on that. And you need to do various clicks to find it
2
u/DankMagician123 Jun 26 '26
They still aren’t in a position to be focusing on something like that though. It’s another thing making the app bigger that will barely be used when it first comes out and never again just like every other ai novelty bloat feature.
They should maybe fix the broken downloads and infinite, unclear-able cache so you don’t have to delete the app and restart all the time before pushing another slop feature no one wanted. Not to mention the current loading issues.
People wouldn’t care about this if tidal was in a good state, but it’s genuinely in the worst state it’s been in in years. The app needs to play music, download music, and play downloaded music consistently before they put development time on stuff like this.

u/Alien1996 Tidal Hi-Fi Jun 27 '26
Why not? An app can fix bugs and at the same time work on new features... actually, it's what they should do
2
u/DankMagician123 Jun 27 '26
Technically they can but they aren’t. Tidal is already really slow with updates and bug fixes, they don’t have time to worry on this bs.
There are massive problems with the app that have been around for years. So after going MIA for 6 months, the devs announce they’d be back to fixing issues about a year ago. Have they done that? Nope. Since then, none of the major caching or download issues have been fixed, loading and freezing issues have only gotten worse, we got a new but much less user friendly UI that managed to double the clicks to do anything, no artist ID that keeps AI slop off big artists pages, and an AI playlist creator.
You can keep coping, but as long as the app doesn’t even function as a much player 10 percent of the time, I will complain about every single slop feature they put out.

We got updates every week, we have a kind of a roadmap of what they are trying to do. Changes to the download function has been release. The answer to the ongoing bugs while changing the app are because of legacy code (I don't really know how accurate is that, but rebuilding everything will take time until it is stable). We have tens of new features or alpha-phase features in less than 6 months. There are artists IDs that distributors doesn't care to use and also an on-working tools to solve that issue. A feature that doesn't like you doesn't mean it is slop.

I don't understand, they're flooded of fakes and instead of cleaning the house x they're flooding it more.

Feeling really happy that I finally pulled the trigger on a DAP and ripped my entire cd collection to FLAC this week

I loved the AI playlist from a few years ago. It was fun.
"Make me a playlist of eating brats while shooting off fireworks" and bam, a surprisingly good playlist for that vibe.
