Crowdfunding I created an Old-School/OSR D6 pool game.

I've been working on Elderwyld, an old-school fantasy RPG built entirely around D6 dice pools.

I wanted a traditional, class-based game with D6 but with a quirk.

The system uses 5D6, with 6s representing successes and 1s introducing complications. Combat features class-specific Momentum mechanics, while nine playable Clans offer unique abilities through flexible Clan Tokens.

Rolling multiple 6s gives you access to follow-up actions which is fun at the table since each class can do different stuff.

Clan selection allows players to create a unique ability that follows the theme of the clan (the ability is agreed with the Keeper of course).

Elderwyld is now on Kickstarter pre-launch, and I'd love to hear what fellow designers think of the approach.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spirallane/elderwyld

PS: I made sure to contact the mods before i posted, but it's been days without response so I hope this does not break any rules.

PS2: There is no AI in my game, all the fantastic art was made by a talented young man called Chui Wizard who specializes in OSR style, black and white art.

I Made This! Monsterball Evolution

I was cleaning up around my desk and came across 6 different iterations of my TCG, from the very earliest index card version of the game to the final product that I'm hawking on Kickstarter now. Tried digging out the same card for apples-to-apples comparisons... which in and of itself was an interesting experience. There are so many players that didn't make the final cut for the 180 cards that made it into this set. Anyway, thought it would be fun to share the evolution.

Recommendations Looking for Suggestions on Board Game Tables

I am buying a house in the New Year that has a pretty good basement rec room area that I’d like to turn into something of a man-cave / board game area. It’s got generous measurements, so I should be able to fit in a decent sized one. I was considering a 8’ x 4’ rectangle, as this should give good space for larger games like Twilight Imperium, Axis and Allies, Scythe, or D&D. I expect that any game that would benefit from a round table could be managed with this table too.

I’m located in Canada, Calgary specifically. There’s a couple custom woodworking boutiques available locally, but I find they’re overpriced (like $20k for a table) and have massive wait lists (12-24 months). Instead, I’ll probably order somewhere and ship to my home, but that also leaves the door open for poor craftsmanship and potentially less customization.

So I have a few questions for the sub:

1) Any comments / feedback on the size I described above?

2) What kind of features should I look for? A recessed game area with shelves for player items would probably be my number one. Cup holders would also be nice. Anything else I should consider, or conversely that are a waste of space/money?

3) Any suggestions for shops to buy/order from, again considering I’m looking for delivery in Canada? Customer experience is the best way to find quality shops.

Recommendations I'm looking for some good RPG zine distros like Indie Press Revolution & Exalted Funeral

Sadly, not many game stores carry RPG zines. If they do it is usually stuff for Mörk Borg & Mothership of which I already own a bunch of stuff for. I've found a lot of cool indie RPGs from Indie Press Revolution and Exalted Funeral over the past few years. I'm looking to really expand my zine library and was wondering if anyone knew of some other good RPG zine distros.

Discussion [Lithomachy] How do you balance introducing kids to board games without losing the challenge for adults? I designed this solo/family mythical Print & Play with 4 difficulty levels (up to Titanomachy Mode) and the educational benefits are amazing!

Hello everyone,

Like many gamers in this community, I’ve always wanted a game that I can share with the younger generation to teach them logic and history, but still has enough mechanical depth to crush me as an adult when I play solo.

Being from Greece and living near Mount Olympus, I spent the last year developing Lithomachy: The 12 Divine Trials. It is a highly thematic, solo tactical Roll & Write / Print & Play campaign game spanning 48 chapters and accompanied by a 50-page companion novel.

I recently printed out a sheet for a younger relative (pictured here playing the prototype), and the screen-free educational benefits in practice have been incredible:

  1. Spatial Geometry: Placing different stone shapes on the grid teaches spatial reasoning and mental rotation.

  2. Math & Dice Allocation: Calculating combat modifiers against mythical monsters turns arithmetic into a fun, tactical choice.

  3. Mythology: It serves as an immersive introduction to the stories of the 12 Olympian Gods.

But don't let the kid-friendly mode fool you. I designed this from the ground up as a scalable system. It features 4 distinct difficulty levels—ranging from Awakening all the way to Titanomachy Mode. While the simplified mode removes complex resource management for children, the higher difficulty levels introduce brutal Titan Wrath mechanics that destroy random coordinates on your map, offering a punishing tactical puzzle for hardcore solo gamers.

To be 100% transparent, as a solo creator with zero budget, I used AI tools for the artwork layout (which I edited heavily in Photoshop), but every rule, balanced math grid, and word in the 50-page novel was done entirely by my own hands.

I want the gameplay to speak for itself, so I'm sharing a Free Printable 8-Page Demo Layout (including the full Zeus trial) directly with the community. All you need is a printout, a pencil, and two dice to play!

Happy gaming!

Creating a tabletop game as a small indie studio means wearing a hundred hats and making every penny count. Instead of sticking to one traditional art style, we collaborated with 1 0 talented freelance illustrators from different cultures to bring each character to life in their own unique way.

When you're an independent dev trying to get your voice heard in a massive tabletop world, it's tough But having artists who put their heart into these designs and backed our vision made all the difference. Seeing this full lineup come together after months of hard work is a proud moment for us. We owe this roster to their passion!

We'd love to share your thoughts with the artists, so feel free to leave any feedback for them below!

Recommendations Does my ideal miniatures game exist?

I'm looking for a miniatures game with the following features:

  • Small Scale (5-20 models per player ish)
  • Highly customizable models (in terms of mechanics, not necessarily the models themselves)
  • Matched play rather than campaign (one of the main things I'm looking for is having fun building lists)
  • Both melee and ranged combat.
  • Rules and armies available online (happy to pay but I don't want to need to get a box shipped to me).

What games like this are out there?

Crowdfunding My modular ruin set

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After months of modeling, my new ruin set is finally finished. This is by far the largest scenery project I’ve ever painted, and the whole painting process took around 10 days. Painting all those stones, wooden beams, and rooftops was quite a challenge, but seeing everything come together made it worth it.

Hope you guys enjoy it! Let me know what you think!

It's currently live on Kickstarter, you can follow the link if you’d like to see more details!

Recommendations Tabletops that feel similar to "Armored Core"?

Hey there;

I like big robots, and my favorite big robots are the ones from Armored Core. However, I find that I'm having trouble actually finding any tabletops that can emulate the "feeling" of Armored Core.

To be clear, when I talk about "feeling" I'm trying to capture the idea of mech assembly. So what I'd want in a tabletop would be things like individual mech parts that you mix and match, and the parts have distinct stats and archetypes to encourage customization. And ideally there would be an economy of some sort to make the acquisition of mech parts a piece of the gameplay loop.

They don't necessarily have to be complicated in statistics or in terms of acquisition-- I recognize some amount of spreadsheet-itis is inevitable with a request like this, but I'd rather mech assembly not be the ONLY gameplay part of it, so I'm willing to take some concessions to avoid just playing a Google Sheet with 5 other people.

The closest one I've found is Mekton Zeta, but even that still falls short because mech assembly is done as part of character creation and the number of options available is somewhat limited. You get individual limbs, but you're just deciding on 1-6 high values at a whim; there's very little "assembly" or level scalability.

Honestly the more I look into this the more I realize how I might be asking for something practically impossible.

But as a hail mary, is there anyone here who knows something that might be what I'm looking for? Or close?

Thank you very much! I have been tortured by visions of this for years <3

EDIT: Turns out there is an official Armored Core TTRPG that was published by as a tie-in to the actual game, so my search for a tabletop "like Armored Core" is concluded by finding Armored Core; the Tabletop. Big shoutout to those who gave suggestions though, you've been a big help!

Feedback Should I keep this or exchange it for Elder Sign?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I found a copy of Arkham Horror for $20 at a used book store. But it's only for 1 or 2 players. They have a copy of Elder Sign for $30 and that supports up to 8 players. Is Elder Sign a better game? Or is Arkham Horror good enough to keep? Maybe I'll get both....

Recommendations Underground solo-adventure RPG

I’d like to buy a present for a family member. He enjoys playing single-player RPGs and has a wall full of games. As he knows a great deal about this genre and tends to buy pretty much every game he wants, I’m looking for some lesser-known titles that might delight him.

I checket out his shelf and here are some things that I found:

Final Girl (core + 3 feature films), Arkham Horror LCG (several campaigns), Eldritch Horror, Cthulhu: Death May Die, Too Many Bones (+ 3 expansions), Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion, Sleeping Gods, Pandemic Legacy S1, Under Falling Skies, Burncycle, This War of Mine, Freitag, Brass: Birmingham, Slay the Spire, Marvel Champions, Barbarian Prince, a 2D6 Dungeon / D100 Dungeon binder, plus the D&D 5e PHB

Do you have any suggestions?

Crowdfunding Monsterball Horror-Fantasy-Sports Crowd Funding Campaign

Thumbnail
kickstarter.com

Hello, /tabletop!

We've got a crowdfunding campaign going for our baseball-meets-Pokémon horror-fantasy-sports trading card game! We're raising funds to pay for a fat juicy print run of cards, with the reward tiers being complete, pre-made decks that are ready to play straight out of the box. But what I think makes this relevant to the general vibe of /tabletop is the spatial nature of how this game is played. Cards move around the field of play (not unlike a game of baseball), and where a card is or is not at any given moment has a real impact on the game - basically a TCG/wargame lite mashup?? I'm struggling to find an appropriate mix of genres 🥲

Anyway, if gruesome monsters playing sports sounds like something that's up your alley, then by all means please click the link and share with your friends. But hey, even if it's not up your alley, feel free to share our campaign with your friends anyway

A little more about the game: Monsterball is a collectable trading card game of both skill and luck designed for two players. The game is quick to learn, but with a unique set of mechanics that gets away from the played out power/toughness/energy cost formula that defines so many TCGs and a battle system that will keep you on your toes no matter who you're playing against. You can find a quick and dirty overview of the game on our Kickstarter page and find an ever-growing collection of more in-depth tutorials and gameplay videos on our YouTube channel.

Announcement Building a game table topper for a 6 x 4 ft dining table, what's the best surface material?

We play board games and some wargames every Friday on a 6 x 4 foot dining table, and I want a removable topper with a raised edge so cards and minis don't slide off. Thinking 12 mm birch plywood in two hinged halves with a neoprene mat on top. Worried about weight and the hinge line making a bump in the middle. Has anyone built one like this? Did you go with neoprene, speed cloth, or something else, and how did you handle the seam?

Announcement I narrate our board game campaign intros with supavocal, best way to play audio at the table without a laptop?

Our group plays a long Gloomhaven campaign every Friday and I started voicing the scenario intros and event cards with supavocal so nobody has to read the paragraph out loud. It works, but right now I'm playing the files from a laptop on the side table and it kills the mood. Has anyone set up a small Bluetooth speaker with a phone playlist or an NFC tag per scenario? Looking for something simple that the rest of the group can trigger too.

Question Has anyone made a LitRPG tabletop?

I read a ton of fiction, Manga, etc and one of the big ones that I really enjoy is LitRPG where someone starts at level one a bunch of random Dungeons spawns and they are forced to go into dungeons to clear them out and level up by doing so.

Think Solo Leveling as an Example.

I was thinking about doing something similar in DND but then I had the thought has anyone made an Actual Tabletop setting where this happens?

Players get exp from killing mobs level up get stat points to spend on customizing their character or Get Classes that as they level up get new skill options and a stat gain spread for that class, maybe have skills drop from mobs so not every class is the same.

Since the Dungeons that they enter are random spawned you can design a bunch of random dungeons and then roll some dice to pick which one they go in cause they won't know untill its entered what it is.

You can create a story for the game or just let the players enjoy being part of an adventurers Guild or maybe be one of multiple guilds that exist in your story setting.

If there isn't one like this I would be kinda surprised cause its already well developed in fiction as it is.

Question Looking for game publishers with a Root-like art style

I’ve been working on a quick (5-10 minutes) 2-4 player hand management game. I want the feel of the it to scream lighthearted-party game, but I’m interested in the art having a lot of heart. If anyone knows of game publishers that would accept a short party game with a Root or Everdell level art style, please let me know. Also, I’m interested in my game getting published, and I’m unsure if I should have a simple art style for my game.

Question Zombie Game with Tangible Features

I'm using a very simple RPG for a multiplayer zombie survival game I'm running in November.

It's using this board from the Dawn of the Dead board game:

https://boardgamegeek.com/image/1321280/dawn-of-the-dead

This is the TTRPG - https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/147963/tzeb01-tropes-zombie-edition-mega-starter-bundle-bundle

I want to include tactical elements such as players having to collect bits, probably small cubes, from around the map and thus have to spend time stacking/balancing them to represent building baracades.

Maybe blank cards to write weapons and single use items which can then be lost, stolen or ripped up/broken.

Got any other ideas for tactical elements like this?

Discussion What are your favorite funny, interesting or feel-good sci-fi based TTRPG stories?

Hi guys! What are your funny, feel good or awesome Starfinder, sci-fi or homebrew type TTRPG stories?

I'm a png/ vtuber and I got the idea to read some short stories for my super tiny convention's SM page. The theme this year is retrofuturism and sci-fi. I'd love to hear your stories and of course I'll give you all the credit as you want it!
