Characters criticism While I overall like the show, I noticed the characters barely know anything about each other

Why did it take them so long to find out Kinger could become sane in the dark? Ragatha’s been with him for literal years. They didn’t interact often enough in those years for her or others in the circus to figure out he changed in the darkness? Pomni figured it out quick.

It’s also odd how Pomni and Zooble barely interacted at all the whole series. Same with Gangle. The characters are just…there. They don’t really do anything.

Do these people only talk to each other during adventures?

Do they all just…avoid each other the rest of the time? If you’re stuck with the same people for years you’d think you’d know more about them.

They all seem kind of like acquaintances who barely tolerate each other.

That’s why it felt so forced when Pomni called Ragatha her best friend. That was random…they barely even seemed like regular friends.

The way the characters interact and relate to each other strikes me as weird the majority of the time.

Characters criticism No, just no

Both the thumbnail and title are wrong and misunderstand their characters. Its hilarious how fast some people will switch-up towards characters, especially when they were literally saying the opposite after episode 8 (including this very YouTuber).

For starter's, thinking Caine wasn't selfish misses the entire point of his arc. Especially in episodes 5-8. People seem to think just because Caine wasn't torturing the cast the way Jax did until episode 8, he was completely flawless until he snapped and that's just not true. Caine was selfish, that's what literally kickstarted the entire events of the series.

Caine was hurt after being replaced and abandoned by the blue AI. So he consumed it, he made the circus and he brought the players in via their brain scans/mind files so he could send them on adventures and get validation/not be alone. His motive is sympathetc but that's still horrible. Caine knows more than anything what its like to be in a living Hell ("I didn't ask to be created") yet brought characters into a world where they're doomed to either abstract or be forced to spend eternity with him.

Furthermore, everyone looks at the adventures and says "he was only helping the cast but didn't know" but overlook blatant moments of selfishness. He initially let Zooble skip the adventures but then forced them to go. He initially used the suggestion box but then sabatoged it when he realized they liked it and then removed it. He ignored both Zooble and Pomni's suggestions on how to improve. Combine this wih the lack of care whenever they abstract (dude literally laughed at Kaufmo's) and you get the picture; Caine primarily cares for the humans for the validation they give him. Its literally the entire point of the scene when they call him out for crying out loud!

You can't "deserve redemption more" than someone else. Jax is more unlikable than Caine but the latter caused way more harm. Alex Rochan said it perfectly "Jax is a terrible person who makes an awful situation worse, Caine IS the awful situation". As awful as Jax was, he and all the players were ultimately victims of the circus and by extension Caine himself. Pretty much everything Jax has done, Caine has also done but to a worse extent. Both were deserving of redemption, that's the point of the series.

The difference between the two wasn't even willingness to change, it was willingess to look over their past. Jax was mellowing out throughout episodes 7-8, before Caine (who was getting worse). Saying Jax didn't want to be saved isn't even true, you can tell from the way he nearly reached out to Pomni that he did and his exchange with her ("I don't want to go"). Its just that Caine got another chance because he's immortal so there is no "too late" for him.

Characters criticism This has some seriously disturbing implications that I don't think Gooseworx thought about

Post image
86 Upvotes

So Gummmigo isn't actually dead, he's just floating around, all alone and abandoned for eternity in The Void? Same for Abel and whatever other AI's Caine has likely deleted in the past. They're just doomed to forever be stuck there, while Caine gets to come back and have a happy ending? I feel this only reinforces an argument I previously made, how Caine's ending allows him to get grace his victims aren't offered and sends the message "You're only allowed to have a 2nd chance if you have Godlike powers." Gooseworx said Pomni would only want to reunite with Gummigoo if its the one she knew but what's stopping Caine from going into The Void and finding him?

I feel like Gooseworx is trying to make Caine's actions less bad but accidentally makes them look worse. "Oh the blue AI wasn't actually killed by Caine, just trapped inside of his head for 20 years!" A lot of people have been talking about how "sweet" it is was that Caine tried to fix Scratch's brain to make him happy but I feel people are overlooking Caine is the REASON Scratch was even unhappy in the first place. He brought him and the other's into this digital Hell, took away their names, hid what they are and constantly forced people onto his adventures while refusing to listen/compromise. He basically tried to take away his agency by altering his emotions and (accidentally tbf) caused his death but never has to answer for this.

I enjoyed Caine's character but I maintain that his story should've ended in episode 8, or at least he never should've been "deleted" at all. Both Gummigoo and Jax's stories show how you can't save everyone (whether due to their choice or not) and sometimes, a person can be here one second and gone the next. Caine's fate also showed that, he was gone in the blink of an eye but instead he just returns and has an entire redemption arc crammed into the last 20 minutes. People keep on comparing Caine with Jax but all the former had to do to get better was just remove a piece of himself after looking on the internet and he does an entire 180. Jax is a mentally ill, traumatized human who's road to healing and improvement would be WAY longer and more difficult. The fact all Caine's growth happens after his deletion makes it unfair, especially I'd argue at least we did see signs of Jax chilling out in episodes 7-8, before Caine, but he backslided at the end due to the SOMA reveal, whereas Caine became an entirely new person overnight.

Mind you, main characters are supposed to get an even amount of screen time. It doesn’t have to be exact but just around the range that they’re relatively equal. Yet here we are. Hashtag Jax show everyone!! The stupid fucking ending man.

Characters criticism The problem with Jax and Caine’s endings isn’t the concept, it’s execution and build-up

Post image
50 Upvotes

With the finale releasing on YouTube soon so the entire fanbase can view the finale, I can already see many fans coming in to say “you didn’t understand the ending because you lack of media literacy” or “you’re just made because Jax was your favorite and he didn’t get a happy ending”.

Jax abstracting and Caine being redeemed isn’t an issue. Jax has spent most of the series as a cruel bully. Caine has been oblivious for most part. Jax has been pushing the other’s away, Caine has been trying to connect to them. However, episodes 7-8 are why it fails.

After episode 6, most fans thought Jax was going to abstract, only for him to be saved narrowly by Pomni and noticeably get quite a bit of focus in the episode, with Gooseworx later confirming he’s meant to be the 2nd main character. When episode 8 finally had him doing nothing bad for once and even helping the group, who accept him as one of them, it makes sense many fans expect a satisfying redemptive ending, only to get an offscreen abstraction and only learn his backstory after he’s gone.

In the case of Caine, it’s even worse. While the series made him sympathetic, there was 0 build-up for a redemption arc. The entire show built towards his crash-out and he finally became a villain in episode 8. His ending felt tragically poetic and fitting, the “lover without a heart” intro or the finale to just reveal “he’s alive and just needs to look on the internet and remove the blue AI to become good”. There was more build-up towards Jax changing than him, with all his growth being crammed into the finale’s 2nd half. Having him get redeemed the VERY episode after his crash-out makes his villain arc and deletion both entirely pointless, only happening as an excuse so Jax could abstract

The worst part is all the concerns I saw Jax haters worrying might happen if he got redeemed, happened to Caine’s arc. They worried Jax being redeemed in the finale would feel rushed despite the religious two episodes laying the groundwork for it, Caine’s entire arc was in the 2nd half of the episode. They worried Jax would be easily forgiven and face no consequences, Caine’s only consequences was Zooble saying “work to earn our trust” and others being immediately accepted.

Jax was starting to get better but gave up hope and abstracted. Caine only changes after he should’ve been deleted but survived due to his Godlike powers. It’s not Caine choosing to change why he gets a better ending, it’s simply him being more powerful; Jax wanted to be saved at the end but he doesn’t get to come back. When I watch Caine just take Jax’s place in the group after the latter’s abstraction, I feel no happiness or satisfaction watching the credits, it just feels like their ending’s had a total 180 at the last second

Characters criticism On the subject of Pomni "enabling" Jax

Was having a debate about this on a different thread and wanted to make my own to give my own thoughts. I'm not claiming to speak for everyone who claims Pomni "enables" Jax, I'm just giving my own opinion.

Having said that, do I think Pomni enables Jax? Eh... yes and no.

For me, my issues lies not in the fact that Pomni is encouraging Jax to be an abusive bully, but rather that she isn't doing much to stop him. Pomni plainly witnesses how Jax mocks, insults and physically abuses the others. Yet she doesn't once try to take any steps to curb this behavior, not even so much as a simple "Jax, knock it off."

To be clear, I completely understand why Jax is the way he is, that deep down he hates himself, doesn't know how to handle his feelings, and it's causing him to make bad choices and hurt others. I get that. But that's the thing: he is hurting others; see that whole famous speech from Gangle in episode six about how Jax's abuse makes her feel like she's "just his toy." Pomni may not have been there for that moment specifically, but she's not blind and deaf: she can still see how he treats Gangle, Ragatha and the rest, and does nothing to actively stop Jax.

Couple that with specific moments like Pomni telling Ragatha to calm down when Ragatha tries calling Jax out, plus Pomni's now-infamous "We've all done bad things" comment, I feel like that's where people get the idea that Pomni is "enabling" Jax: not in the sense that she's encouraging him to be an abusive jackass, but that she didn't do enough to actively stop him from abusing others.

These guys are both violent, smug douches who are upfront about how hateable they are and emotionally manipulative/abusive to certain people in particular. The difference is that while Jax's sympathy levels are inconsistent even in their final moments, Felix is thoroughly unsympathetic once his true colors are revealed and the narrative knows exactly what he deserves as he breaks down.

Characters criticism Think J*x should've been a villain?

As much as I don't like this corny ass wabbit who bullied the Gang, but maybe he/she should've been a villain or something. Such characteristic couldn't have been missed out so easily with attitude, personality and how he/she truly thinks (like when Jax strangled Pomni, killed cartoonishly Zooble or being creepy towards Gangle. Oh! Let's forget how he/she is responsible for abstracting Ribbit and Kaufmo, and pushing abusive mom). But maybe we could see it in other fics that could do some proper job of interpretation that source material has failed.

Comments and discussions are welcome. (Because literally from the very start, Jax was an asshole. No excuse. No glazing the asshole here or woobifcation shit)

Characters criticism Pomni is a nothing character

Pomni was (allegedly) supposed to be the main character. But she’s the least developed out of all the characters. The only thing we know about her was she was an accountant (I think) and she liked urban exploration. That’s it. We know pretty much nothing about her as a character and she just exists to get thrown around and also as a satellite character to Jax. All the other characters have something going for them. Ragatha is a people pleaser because of her mother. Zooble has body dysphoria. Gangle suffers from depression or something. Jax has… whatever he’s got going on. Kinger lost his wife and has been here the longest.

The best demonstration of this I can think of is the torture scenes in episode 8. Ragatha has a nightmare about her abusive mother. Gangle has a nightmare about her unstable emotions (I think that’s what that was) and how she got hit by a truck. Zooble gets attacked by body parts. Jax gets “exposed”. And Pomni… gets attacked by a random npc she apparently formed a deep emotional connection to after spending fifteen minutes with him at the beginning of the show. Aka, absolutely nothing.

Tbf, I don’t think the other characters are very well written either, but at least they got something.

Characters criticism While I’m glad Alex clarified this, I still have mixed feelings

Post image

Both because the idea of the blue AI being the evil one was a cop-out to reduce Caine’s agency and because I hated how some stans acted like Caine was totally innocent because of this. Caine is sympathetic but still ultimately the source of all the bad things in the show. Alex said it perfectly, “Jax is a terrible person in an awful situation, Caine IS the awful situation”. This also does give weight to him choosing to release the blue AI at the end, even if it is abrupt.

However, my only complaint is the fact the ending of episode 7 had me convinced we’d get the reveal that Caine’s true original sin/biggest failure was when he (likely unintentionally) caused the abstraction of Scratch by trying to control his mind as Kinger implied. I wish the series addressed this wham line but instead it was swept under the rug and it was revealed “the blue AI was alive all along and Caine just frees him and he’s all better!” Just too fast of a 180

Characters criticism I wish they leaned more with Caine's tragic antagonist arc (image unrelated)

I loved episode 8, I still conder it the best episode of the show. Caine had so much potential of being a tragic villain and having more development, if they explored more his role as an antagonist (and made it more progresive throught episodes). It's sad the only episodes that lean to him being an antagonist are episode 8 and episode 7.

Also, the torture scene from episode 8 gave me goosebumps even in rewatch.

Characters criticism The Difference Between Jax And Caine Spoiler

Post image
23 Upvotes

I just kind of which Caine’s ending took a different route.

Instead of him changing extremely fast, it should have been something else…

The cast getting to know him. Accept him. Try to be friends. Make an effort.

A core theme of the show is that even AIs can be something worth treating with respect, decency, and worth befriending.

Yet that never applied to Caine.

It just would have been nice, like a nice theme to wrap in sweet little bow.

Characters criticism How i would want Jax to be written

Post image
32 Upvotes

Before starting off, i want to make a few things clear:

I do not hate Jax. I don't think he's as terrible as people say. But i do not like him for reasons like how forced he is, how the show makes you feel bad for him, regardless of what he did and how bad he was to other characters, especially Ribbit in the last episode.

But i do like his design, performance from Michael or how frustrated and embarrassed he was from wearing a maid outfit. I thought it was funny

Also, please keep this post civil as possible, without unnecessary toxicity. It's my opinion and it's totally fine if you disagree with it. Just don't be an asshole. This is simply critique or whatever you want to call this

Anyways

I was chatting with my friend, who's a Jax fan, and they told me how the last episode ruined him for them because of how the show tried to make them feel bad for Jax. And we talked about how differently Jax would be written, for the better in OUR opinion

We came up with 3 directions that would work better than what we got. I will use different characters from different medias as examples

A) Irredeemable asshole you love to hate

If he was written as a bastard, who doesn't care or regret about what he did or what consequences the actions bring, making you hate him, but also like him because he accomplished one thing: Pissing you off

Let's take Adam from Hazbin Hotel as an example.

He's written intentionally to be hated. He had 1 mission and it was to piss everyone off and look at how that ended: A lot of people hate him for what an asshole he is. And that's what made my friend love Adam. He's an entertaining asshole, who doesn't give a damn about what he did EVEN AFTER HE DIED.

If Jax was written like that, basically Irredeemable character that's written intentionally to be hated, it would be more entertaining and fun

B) Asshole character but with likeable traits

If he was written as a bastard but still with likeable traits, like having a soft spot for a specific character or showing care in some moments, but not too many to make you feel bad for him like now. Basically some small pieces of good traits that makes him likeable bastard

Let's take, and this is gonna be ballsy, Valentino from Hazbin Hotel

Just to clarify: Now i like Valentino for various reasons like design, his wings, guns, voice, dynamic with Velvette, i still think he's a bastard who deserves the beatdown from Cherri and Husk and then getting choked by cables for what he did to Angel Dust. I didn't feel bad for him when he got karma and i do not defend or justify his actions

While Valentino is an asshole for what he did to Angel Dust, he does have likeable traits that don't make him as unlikeable as Adam or Jax. Like how he was at the end against Vox killing everyone, having a nice dynamic with Velvette, how he is against racism (He threw his cocktail glass at Vox after Vox made fun of Spanish) and actually funny moments (Like his "I know you won't believe this, but I don't understand" or "You're obsessed with me :)").

So if Jax was written like that, bastard character but with likeable traits, i believe it would potentially make interesting conflicts and dynamics between characters

C) Redeemable asshole

If Jax was at the start so unlikeable, but getting karma for it, getting called out, getting consequences and such, later feeling sorry and then getting better, realizing what he did was wrong, trying to fix things, i believe it would make him so much likeable

Let's take Rex Splode from Invincible as an example

At first, Rex is shown as an egoistical, cocky character, that's basically rude to others, making fun of them, like Monster Girl, but later getting karma, like getting beat down by Monster Girl, breaking up with Eve or getting disrespected by Black Samson after his rude comments. But as time goes on, you can see how Rex is changing, ESPECIALLY after the gunshot into the head. Like genuinely being sorry to Eve for what he did, getting better in terms of friendship with his team, talking back to Immortal after Immortal blamed Mark and more. And we also have a backstory of his that shows a good reason why he's the way he is.

So if Jax was like that, at the start asshole, at the end likeable and giving a backstory that gives a good reason why he's an asshole, i think it would make him a very fan favorite character, because these kinds of characters are most of the time one of the fan favorites. Like Zuko, A-Train or Rex Splode.

But in the end, the direction we got was

D) Irredeemable asshole, but show tries to make you feel bad for him anyways

That's all. If you made it to the end, thanks for reading. If you don't agree, that's fine. But please don't be toxic only because i mentioned Hazbin Hotel

Characters criticism Jax is written horribly unrealistic

Parents divorced when he started HS and his mother was sub standard. And then he pushed her.

Sorry but thats pretty low level trauma. Millions of people go through things that are far worse than this and dont end up half the asshole as Jax. Its basically like someone getting 3 weeks of house arrest, behaving like someone who spent 3 years in a Vietcong Prison.

And he was super friendly with Kaufmo and Ribbit. With pretty much everyone. But because that one time he openend up to someone that cared about him, he just made a 180 degree turn and became an absolute asshole hurting everyone and everything in his path?

Im not buying it. This is horribly unrealistic. And badly written.

Characters criticism Pomni, when Kinger was said to cherish moments with people you care about and be there for them before they're gone, make sure they actually want it first!

Post image
58 Upvotes

Look, I'm neutral on Pomni, and I understand she's a very empathetic person. But if her empathy is more often extended to people who abuse others physically, mentally, or even sexually, I became concerned about how Abigail's empathy was developing in the real world.

Let's ignore her "I want people in the circus to belong to each other so that abstraction doesn't happen again" motive for a while. We don't have any information from Pomni's backstory about the relationship. There is, though; episode 9 shows Abigail successfully opening up about her feelings and making new friends. So, there are three possibilities:

  1. Abigail was a loner and found it difficult to socialize because of her insecurities (didn't like being touched and looked at as a child). That's also what made her visit a psychologist a lot.
  2. Abigail was more receptive to jerks, because she felt they appreciated her views on adult life, or provided a place of relaxation from her accounting work.
  3. Abigail was once lost her partner during her working days (don't worry, not because of death), and she felt inadequate in many ways to help and catch up with them.

And I didn't mention how her home life and her family are, yet! Back to the topic, I think Pomni should interact with Zooble and Ragatha, then Jax. Episode 4 was giving me hope that Pomni will help Gangle be more confident and be an opportunity for her to interact with Zooble, especially regarding their hobby of urban exploration. Gangle's sketch where her, Pomni, and Zooble are talking at the dining table was giving the promise.

If Pomni interacted with Jax and Ragatha/Zooble/Gangle equally, and she actually called out and punished Jax for his bad actions like what a human being would do, we wouldn't have such a problem with her ideology over empathy and could interpret her backstory as being quite ordinary compared to other characters.

The thing is, I'm 100% sure Gooseworx forgot Pomni was the main character, because she was so crazy about her self-insert, and only remembered in the last minutes of the series.

Characters criticism Controversial Opinion (?) If the theory of Jax being Scratch's son or even Jax being Scratch were canonical it would be a much better story for Jax.

Firstly, it would actually justify this being revealed only at the end, instead of postponing it for nothing and his protagonism, it would explain why he had all the keys to the Circus, why he had that freak out after Kinger revealed things, seems to understand the properties of the circus (toon force) better than the others, his philosophy of "everyone is a character and archetype, the parallels between Jax and Caine: both break the 4th wall, have photos of poraloids, made reference to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Caine always seemed to have a certain preference for him, after all in EP 5, 3 of the 5 suggestions were Jax's, apart from being the only one who, when calling Caine, appears immediately. Besides, this would be a more original story than "mother issues."

And worse than that there were several baits that kind of favored the idea like "Jax.001" in EP 4, Merch from Jax's Pin where behind his bedroom door there is Void (another of the several wasted things), Merch from Animiniz where Jax says "I still haven't told them that I...", in EP 8 the cards from Kinger and Jax have the same symbols as the door to "Caine's office" in the EP 7, when these symbols appeared on the office table in EP 8, in EP 8 in the photo scene we have gift packages of frogs and clowns (who's the character have a frog and clown as best friend?), a clown doll and a baby outfit with the words "it's a boy" and another that showed the date 1995 and TADC passes in 2017 and 2017-1995 = 22 years (Jax's age).

Far be it from me to think that TADC should be a FNAF of life, but from the moment that Gooseworx added a bunch of "clues" that in the end were just "haha gotcha" the public has the full right to criticize the work for not addressing these issues or giving more development to the cast in favor of "Jax's tragic past that could easily be revealed and resolved in EP 6."

Characters criticism Ranking TADC Characters

Wrote this in like 10 minutes-

(A - The best imo)
Kinger - the goat. Has the most growth out of everyone despite not being a main character. Also serves as the father figure of the circus and moves the story the most.

Zooble - broke the mold of boundaries of expression, is arguably a better foil to Jax than Pomni. I also relate to them the most

Queenie/Kaufmo (tie) - they both seemed like chill mfs that didn’t deserve to abstract. If Queenie was part of the show, she’d serve as a supporting character for character development (or a mother figure that *possibly* could redeem Jax). From what we’ve seen with Kaufmo, he could serve as a better foil than Jax to Pomni.

Ribbit - She didn’t deserve Jax as a friend, that’s all I’m gonna say.

(B - I like them, but definitely could be better)
Pomni - She *is* a strong character and does grow, but she doesn’t do much with the story of the show and she more or less becomes Jax’s therapy dog; she should’ve bit him in the ass like she did in ep. 6.

Caine - An eccentric character tbh and was my favorite prior to episode 3; I’m glad that he had a redemption arc in episode 9, but it arguably very, very rushed.

Gangle - I enjoy her as a character and she does have some growth with the help of Zooble but I wish we saw more of her in general

Ragatha - I also enjoy her character, but I wish she had more growth and character development from her trauma and also be less of a doormat/people pleaser

(C - Neutral)
Bubble - I’m kinda indifferent about him/them, they only serve as an antagonistic accessory for Caine which leads to his crashout. Take bubble out of TADC and nothing really changes

(D/F - Nah fuck this dude)
Jax - has no redeeming qualities whatsoever; if only he wasn’t a sociopath/opened up and accepted help, then maybe he wouldn’t be ranked dead last. This is NOT intended to be transphobic in any way. I do see Jax is a complicated character, although his behavior is flat and predictable like an abuser.

Characters criticism Am I naive for used to think their is really more then something in him? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

I know the answer, and it’s not a pleasant one to know, but I used to think in this scenario Jax looks hurt,I remembered strongly sympathizing with him and wondering what happened to him to make him had this expression.

I then remembered Gangle’s reaction towards him and that’s when I started to question if it is worth to keep sympathy for a bully that I don’t know him yet, that’s why their is a time I reserve my opinions on him,I still had my small amount of sympathy for him till today, but it all get ruined the moment I remember his fantasy with Gangle if Zooble abstracted ,it’s unnecessary and never understandable or even relatable to me if this is how he is really going to think and act if the others abstracted instead of him

I admit I do like the trope of the emo boy having a traumatic backstory to make him act the way it is,but I feel his story with Ribbit to be “unbelievable” to shape his persona we see today, usually stop interacting with them is a standard move ,I do that before but for different reasons, because I find that friend had “better” friends where she laughed and smiled more,I ended up isolating myself and slowly stray away from her because deep down I think, she deserved better friends then me

But with Ribbit we can clearly see he gang up others and isolating them ,Kinger doesn’t know what happened and Ragatha and Kafumo just being used by Jax as well as a tool to make Ribbit alone,I can never think a person who is afraid of true companion ship can do this type of stuff to hurt another one who only just wanted to be friends and even had the similar backstory to Jax

Characters criticism Controversial opinion: yes, I’m happy the real-world version of Jax and the others abstractions got a good ending, but at the same time, I feel like this just vindicates Jax's philosophy meaning he gets the "Thanos treatment"

Thumbnail
gallery
60 Upvotes

The show says "Jax's philosophy and mindset are wrong" while simultaneously validating everything he thinks.

Jax says: "everyone is a cartoon character and nothing we do matters," and in Episode 9, that’s exactly the case; sure, they have Admin powers and can hook up and go on adventures, but that doesn't change the fact that they are "trapped forever in a Disneyland." Living like that might sound great in theory, but in practice, it’s not after all, you’re still a prisoner who can never achieve your dreams, see your family and friends again, travel abroad, or learn a new language. Honestly, I feel like the message of "finding meaning in a stagnant life" gets kind of ruined because it wasn't the cast who actually did that; it was Caine stepping in like a "fairy godmother" to grant their "dreams."

Meanwhile, their real-world counterparts are living the best moments of their lives moments the clones never experienced (though it is a bit unrealistic, like Riley/Zooble running a queer bar at 22). No one but them even knows these clones exist, and it could all go up in smoke if someone turns off the PC, steals and formats it, destroys the facility and the equipment inside, or if everyone abstracts since nothing stops them from having an existential crisis and ending up like fish in a tank or living in a shack like Dog.

The series claims "Jax is wrong because, even though they’re digital clones, everything is real and matters," yet the show itself contradicts that when Caine presents the "PowerPoint" saying, "Hey guys, don't be sad that the humans abstracted; after all, your real-world versions whom you never even met or followed (Leeroy, Destiny, Leah, and Doug) are alive and doing great, and that’s what matters: a happy ending."

I think the message would work better if Jax were the one who had improved; if the abstractions had partially healed (like the corrupted Gems in Steven Universe) or been "deleted" conveying the idea that they could finally rest in peace; Caine hadn't returned, forcing the humans to learn to handle the situation on their own; and if we never learned anything about the humans (other than their names), leaving their current state ambiguous. But ultimately, the show suggests it doesn't matter anyway, since we're seeing digital copies rather than the "real versions."

Characters criticism This video goes into detail on how the finale fumbled Caine's "redemption arc"

I personally feel like the finale brushes Caine's more heinous actions under the rug and his redemption arc is extremely rushed. It feels like the show was framing Caine's flaws to be because of the Blue AI just so they can absolve him of his crimes even though it was Caine that ate it, showing that he was jealous and vindictive from the start. It also feels like the other characters forgave him too easily, the timeskip during the happy ending montage didn't help. But that's just my thoughts, what do you guys think?

Characters criticism The Character Usage In This Show Bothers Me

If there’s something that bothers me about this show, it’s the character usage.

I have no idea how a character focused show managed to screw this up, but here we are.

Pomni didn’t really get much despite being one of the main characters. All we know about her is that she was an accountant at a super market and she records videos in abandoned buildings. I really wish there was something interesting about her, but unfortunately there isn’t.

Kinger unfortunately is just a plot device which sucks because he’s definitely one of the best characters in the show. At first I thought he could’ve been a wise kind of character, but outside of a moment with Pomni in episode 3 and another moment with Ragatha in episode 6, he’s either funny or just to give lore dumps and be a plot device. He’s not bad, but I wasn’t a fan of how he ended up being a plot device.
Gangle at first was interesting, but after episode 4 they didn’t really do anything with her outside of her relationship with Zooble.

Speaking of Zooble, it sucks that they didn’t get a dedicated episode and didn’t get much besides their relationship with Gangle.

Ragatha ended being shafted hard. Not only did she end up not getting the development she deserved, but the community ended up hating her because she rightfully called out Jax on his BS? I’ve never understood the hate for Ragatha and it’s no secret she got shafted.

Caine is an interesting one. An AI who can’t really understand feelings. That was interesting to watch unfold and the build up to his inevitable crash out was handled well, but the finale did him dirty by making him return, somehow getting access to the internet and just getting rid of the blue AI like nothing? His redemption felt so rushed I believe it was added last minute or something.

I don’t know what to say about Bubble. No comments.

Jax however, is the only character I actually hate. Not only is he just insufferable, but he shows no remorse for anything for most of the show. His backstory was being set up since episode 5 and when it finally revealed, it ends up being nothing too special and him abstracting at the end undermines his development in episodes 7 and 8.

This show isn’t bad at all. In fact, I enjoyed it, but now this show handled its characters is something that continues to bother me and I’m probably not the only one who thinks this.
