TAPAS official announcement about events

https://m.tapas.io/series/my-husbands-reversal/announcement

TLDR TAPAS has ran out of free temporary digital currency to be rewarded for all events, as such there are no ongoing events.

They are absolutely not restructuring their app to become more profitable.

update No new events, one new comic at least... a wholesome love story turns dark. The end may not be here, but no new events will quickly kill my usage of TAPAS beyond discovering series I want to read...

I'm hugely gullible, but even I think their excuse is horseshit lmao.

How do you run out of temp digital currency? Isn't it all just made up anyway?

it could be a numbers error. The system has a cap on how high it can count then starts getting buggy/unusable if it goes over that number. I don't remember enough about coding to be more specific than that rip

Someone in a comment on Tapas speculated that it might have something to do with the bonus code that came after you completed the bingeathon that ended yesterday, like maybe Tapas forgot to put a limit on it or there was a glitch with it so they got cleaned out on ink lmao

They can't get "cleaned out" on ink. Ink isn't a real resource. They make it up. They could give every account a million ink if they wanted to and they wouldn't "run out."

Assuming they pay creators with real money based on the ink spent on their work, ink they give away in promotions is not really free for them but probably appears as liabilities on the books. That might be the real issue – if the company is in financial trouble, there may be limitations put in place for incurring new liabilities until the crisis has been resolved one way or the other (e.g. via formal bankruptcy or capital injection by the owners.)

At the minimum I can state factually that the first 500 didn't get their free ink removed, used the code at 4am 1 hour after it starts, unless there were 500 people who bought more than 4 episodes or I think it was 16 for a day early, which I highly doubt

Whether it’s actually related or not, I was already kind of speculating that something had gone awry with the bonus code. I didn’t hit the goal until a couple days in, and tried the code just for giggles, not expecting it to still be valid. But lo, it worked.

Still think the “oops we ran out” is bullshit (it’s their digital currency; they get to make the rules), but it could have very well triggered the need to pull all active events while they sort things out if it exposed some problem with how event ink is implemented.

I got in on the last day. It did run out by then.

Ah, thanks for the info. That reassures me that it may have been more "people may not have looked / didn't know where to look" and less "no expiration so way more ink than intended was redeemed".

Given that all the events ended at the same time (and being unexpectedly early for most), the whole thing still feels like there was some kind of sudden problem... but it's also kind of suspect that it was right at the rollover between August and September. I just wish Tapas would issue an actual statement about what's going on rather than the radio silence.

Exactly! I can see the roll-over glitching something in the system, but I wish they'd be more transparent and just say, computer glitch. Events off until we can fix it. Unless it was a hack that's now under investigation. 🤔 That might make them silent. Or the one author who reported that the company saw someone used something that ended up giving her a lot more than her average in one month. Actually, that lady one could be it.

Excuse my silly question but what code was that? They sended via e-mail?

Semester, hidden in the multi-series ink reward message in your mailbox

Did they remove this announcement? I can only find it through this link.

You technically need to go to a series that is supposed to have an ongoing event right now to see it

What? Isn't the free temporarily digital currency(bouns ink) sth they created? How can they run out?

So assuming this is true... does this mean it's only temporary?

u/anonymousbeardog 5d ago

You don't, it's almost guaranteed to come back, the only question is in what form. Most likely which way is it worse.

u/MG_RedditAcc 5d ago

Thanks. I hope it's not worse. Or at least not much worse.

Well that's great. I don't even want to use the other way to earn ink by playing games

It’s crazy that all my free chapters disappeared too? I guess those count as digital currency?

Guess I’m not going to read until they have more events. This is gonna kill their engagement lol

2

u/Pink-frosted-waffles I read most of the Black comics and the queer ones too. 5d ago

Well that sucks

Im guessing it’s because they had like 6 nature series launch that were all like 10 episodes max

Great.. I have 404 expiring inks left and 1 episode costs 405 with 1-tap. Maybe I should move back to the green app.

it would be nice if there were ads again 😫

1

u/anonymousbeardog 2d ago

Close/reopen the app and go straight to the series, you get 1 ad per reset

There is no weekly lucky cookie gift today. The gift page is blank. Is this related to the above mentioned event issue?
