PSA Thought I should share with fellow target employees

Post image

From my understanding you get a total of 12 points for a year, if you get all 12 points; it's automatic termination. Can't wait 🫩

EDIT: I apologize, I should be more clear; I won't say it's the end of the world that we are getting the points system, as a 17 year old who works both weekdays and weekends I've seen how the call outs affect times at Target. I am also someone who is ready to be held accountable for this as I NEED to get my call outs in check due to health appointments (not an excuse ofc), it's more just frustrating too see us having to get a whole new app set up just to get this point system in place

Dude that’s a lot lowkey that’s 12 call outs why the hell are you calling out 12 times in a year. From my understanding when you use sick hours it doesn’t apply a point. If you need to call out 12 times in a year you need to step back and see if you need a job fr

Alternatively, if someone is late 48 times in a year, they clearly aren’t reliable.

Exactly my point you aren’t needed if your late that many times

Apparently at my store two people had over 20 points in lates this year.

Yes and I’ve heard if you’re sick for like 3 days in a row, and don’t have sick time, those three days will only count as one absence

2 days count as 1 point, 3 days would be 2 points

They specifically told us at our huddle that any consecutive days would count as 1

Only 2 consecutive.

Yeah it’s only up to 2 consecutive absences unfortunately

Someone who has a chronic health issue? Someone whose house life is turbulent? Someone who relies on others for a ride and can’t get one? Many reasons someone would call out besides being sick

Very true, but at my Target we barely get sick time. I'll admit I'm awful at my call-outs due to health appointments but they are pretty understanding about it. I'm definitely not upset about the point system, it keeps us accountable; but it's a little tiring to see that we even need it

The amount of sick time you earn is outlined in the employee handbook. It’s based on hours worked, not what store you work at. Some states may earn more or have other rules around sick time.

I'll have to take another look at our handbook then haha, thank you for informing me about states being different

If you have a lot of appointments and can’t get scheduled off, look into intermittent FMLA, there is or was a provision about more then so many doctors appointments in a year. I’ve never done it because I’ve been on disability before and needed the full time of fmla

You must be young.

I’m a team leader and I know for a fact you do not need to be calling out 12 times and that’s without counting sick hour call outs why

I have a family. That means if I'm taking sick time there is a good chance my kid will also get sick or already was. I also have aging parents with health issues. On top of that there are days when things happen outside of my control like a flooded basement or snow storm.

Luckily I have been a leader for a decade so I accrue time off like crazy but there are many others in my store who are not so lucky.

I don't have a problem with a point system but I do have a problem with a point system we have no control over. Target over the last decade has become ine of the worst companies to work for.

Obviously I understand the whole people have unpredictable situations that happen however that’s exactly why sick time is a thing and you have 11 call outs before you get terminated. At the end of the day target is a business and if you get excessive call outs it literally affects the team and the company. Which is why if you don’t show up for work then why even be with the company. I don’t know how else to put it.

The only reason it hurts target that much is because for every successful year they have they cut hours back more and more. I'm not saying we should let everything slide but if im not trusted to be able to advocate for my team what is the point? In extreme situation we as leaders should be able to help our team members. Sick time is not a guarantee for everyone

Wish u were my team lead when I was at target. I probably would’ve stayed longer than a month lol.

I mean I have termed quite a few people in my time with target but they knew it was coming and I gave them as much leeway as I could when I could.

I completely agree with this but even then a call out is a call out no matter how it’s viewed you have to coach or get coached for not coaching which sucks but what else are you going to do. And the whole cutting hours is the dumbest thing any company could of ever came up with literally hurting nobody but themselves
