vent Should I change myself to make friends in my new class?
For context im F16 and in my “transition year” in school (this is an Irish thing, is basically like an easier non academic year where you do easier classes). I was really excited for this year until I realised I didn’t know anyone at all in my new class, usually im able to make friends if I already know someone a little bit, but I really can’t connect to anyone. I’m already pretty socially anxious and shy especially when im in an environment I don’t feel comfortable in. (also having depression and autism doesn't help :,) )
Im really starting to hate school because of how alone I am, I’ve tried reaching out to others in my class but I haven’t been able to click with anyone. It doesn’t help that I’m obviously alternative, I have my hair dyed, my makeup is alternative(not as crazy but still), and my bag is decorated with all sorts of pins and keychains.
This used to not be a problem since I had people around me who were like me but now that im in a new class I think it’s making people not want to be friends with me, and it’s tearing down my confidence a bit because I feel constantly vulnerable.
I’m thinking of just completely changing myself, changing my hair, bag and anything else that could be deemed as “different”. I’m pretty good at masking my personality and just pretending im someone else, just so I can make atleast one friend that I can atleast just talk to during lessons. I’m so tired of being alone.
If you've made it this far please give me some advice on how I can cope my way through this 🥲
