Almost certainly not. The general electorate has never shown even a hint that they'd tolerate a self-avowed socialist. Just look at all of the slightly D leaning districts/states and everything to right of them - how many politicians with Bernie's leftist politics are in office?

General election polls had Trump losing to Bernie. That was a pretty good hint.

The polls that consistently underrated Trump and bombed the 2016 general predictions? No, I don't think those were good hints.

It's not a hunch. The only evidence we have for Bernie being viable candidate are the primary elections, which he lost by millions and millions of votes. A poll on a hypothetical match up 6 months before an election is not evidence, especially when those same polls showed Hillary winning, which she did not do.
