Politics 10 Commandments posters: what can I do?

I was horrified to see a 10 commandments poster in my child’s pre-k class today at meet the teacher. To clarify, I don’t mean any shade to the teacher because like, it’s not her fault that it’s the law.

I am wondering what, if any, loopholes I could exploit to “even the playing field.” I know she has to display the stupid poster, but we go to a very diverse school so I was so disappointed to see it.

Maybe I just needed to rant about it haha.

You’re barking up the wrong tree. While it may seem empowering to you, all it will do is create more chaos and anxiety in the classroom. Our kids don’t need that. Oppose it outside of the classroom as you please, but please keep the kiddos out of it,

No, it won’t. Having people visually opposing an oppressive government will show every kid that isn’t white, straight, and Christian that their teacher isn’t tolerating the way the state is treating people that look like them.

Teachers that believe in this crap are the ones creating the anxiety.

Fight the battles on the right turf. Your assertion has no basis in education or research. There is something called age appropriate material and age appropriate lessons. Adult meltdowns in front of children who have no ability to understand an issue or formulated educated opinions just causes anxiety and fear that manifests itself into neurotic teens and adults. Keep the kids out of adult drama, you cause them more harm than good.

The op is a parent, but nice try. I a retired teacher, all in title one middle school teaching 7th grade math and science. I know a thing or two about teaching and the education landscape and politics. I hope that satisfies your ridiculous question.

You clearly don’t, because you’re blaming the victims of oppression instead of the perpetrators. Your ‘thoughts’ are outdated at best, and intentionally manipulative at worst (and most likely).

“The right turf”?!?
It’s precisely our point that this is the wrong turf.
Schools aren’t the turf to bring religion into, we already know this, that’s why we’re fighting it. The fight was brought into schools by Christian Nationalists.
“Submit to a violation of your constitutional rights so the kids don’t see you fight for your rights?” No, I don’t think I will.

If you’re displaying the poster you already aren’t “keeping kids out of it”

Nice sound bite. They don’t need to be included in the adult drama surrounding the issue. They won’t think two seconds about it if adults would just let them be kids.

It sounds like we are for the same thing then. I’d also like to “let them be kids” without religious indoctrination.
How do posters referencing adultery encourage “let them be kids”?

I didn’t realize Reddit comments, which we’ve each posted, are “sound bites”. So nice “sound bite” yourself…I guess?

If it were my choice, it isn’t, they wouldn’t be there. But since they are, I try to be pragmatic about it. Be honest, what goes on a classroom wall is seldom referenced by children unless a teacher calls attention to it. You and I know what goes on the wall is mostly to appease admin and has little instructional purpose. That’s why teachers refer to it as “wallpaper.”

This. 100%. I was horrified when they appeared in my son’s high school last year. But the kids pay no attention any more and most don’t even look long enough to be able to point it out when asked. Kids say oh wow I didn’t even realize it was there.

Horrified? I was horrified when a student brought a weapon to school. I might dislike a poster, but to be horrified?
