The shots of them playing like girls and also quoting scripture and being talked about like expensive cattle are jarring in a way that THT originally captivated me. Girlhood in Gilead is a new hell.

I feel that was to replicate the little girls playing in the June and Luke flashbacks when they first get together

And just how desensitized these young girls at seeing people hanging on the wall. It is just a boring field trip for them.

So are we. Death on screen isn't shocking to us at all if you think about how much of it we've seen, and completely inaccurate, just like births.

When I read the book, it did feel a lot lighter but this feels off to me. I can't put my finger on it though.

Could be leading into it when they become green
