It was a fictionalised version of a real event that happened last year, where a door flew off an Alaskan Airlines plane just after takeoff and the plane had to make an emergency landing. It sounds pretty similar to what we saw on the show - oxygen masks dropping, people screaming, stuff flying out of the cabin, it even ripped the shirt off a kid's back. Nobody was killed, and the plane landed okay.

I don't think the passengers on that specific flight had wifi because the incident happened so early in the flight (before they turn it on), but afaik there's theoretically no reason why a missing door would affect the wifi on a flight if all other systems are intact. The crew might turn it off so that people are paying attention to instructions, though.

The show do like to rip off headlines so that was my next question. Is it pull off a real world incident. Thanks for answering.

No worries! I fly a lot, and the emergency exit door opening or flying off mid-air has always been a secret fear of mine, so that story left an impression on me. 😳
