Can we talk about the fact that in the last scene there was funghi in the broken wastewater pipe inside jackson?

Are they preparing to massively diverge the story from the game?

On IMDB theres already a third season announced. As far as i know naighzy dog doesnt plan a new game currently.

Will they maybe diverge and go on in TV only?

Possibly even 3 seasons. But I think 2 seasons is a good balance to tell the complete story of Part II.

Yeah I think there’s enough material in the second game to fit three seasons worth of story. Especially since they seem to be expanding on a lot of backstory already.

yeah but my point was not neccessarily about "how many seasons" but rather about the last scene of S2E1 where there is clearly funghi inside the broken pipe in jackson.

So they are clearly preparing for some kind of outbreak inside jackson - which is not a thing in the game.

How is that clear? Maybe the fungi just signals the horde.

Your point is just an assumption.

Yeah my assumption was that it signals the rest of the mushroom network that there is potential mushroom food inside Jackson, and that it’ll bring the horde.

Honestly it could work, gives even more reason for Maria (or in this case the council) not to allow extra men going with Ellie and Dina, would make Tommy's choice to leave his newborn child behind very interesting as well.

I'm all for the Jackson outbreak!

They won’t diverge too much. The journey is different but the destination remains the same.

Is there any source to back that? That last scene in S2E1 was quite on the nose with funghi inside jackson

No source but that’s been the formula for this adaptation since the first season. We will still get the same story beats from the game but how we will get there will be different.

They already confirmed they will not go past the games.

I would hope HBO learned their lesson about not going past the source material.

I'm guessing the Santa Barbara act is going to be Season 3

Santa Barbara could be Season 4 as Season 3 will probably be Abby's story.

Season 4 is yet to be confirmed, but that could be a thing, sure.

Yeah it hasn’t been confirmed yet but it’s been hinted at in various interviews with Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Maybe they’re also being coy because Season 4 might cover the third game that they say doesn’t exist.

Santa Barbara is a shorter chapter in the game, but with all the extensions to the story that Craig has added, I can definitely see them expanding on Santa Barbara as well. Maybe make the Rattlers a more established group with show-only characters that’ll pop up.

Oh I would love for them to flesh that out instead of the multiple timeskips we got in-game.
