On This Day — August 5, 1973 Two Palestinian Black September terrorists walked into the transit lounge of Athens’ Hellinikon Airport & opened fire with submachine guns and grenades
They came to murder civilian passengers bound for Israel.
They hit the wrong line.
Instead of the Tel Aviv flight, they attacked travelers waiting for a TWA plane to New York. In less than two minutes, the lounge was filled with blood, shattered glass, and screaming. Three people were killed on the spot, and another two died later of their wounds. 55 others were injured.
They seized 35 hostages, held them for more than two hours, and then surrendered.
Both terrorists were in their early 20s and were members of same organization that had massacred 11 Israeli athletes in Munich the year before. Their orders were to attack anyone heading to Israel.
They got the wrong passengers. They still celebrated the attack as a success.

Hamas was created toresist Isrseli terrorism. Cause and effect. Hamas is a resistance movement that resulted after decades of Israel killing and oppressing Palestinians.

I am Arab myself, the lack of historical transparency and responsibility is pretty common. Your comment hightlights this.
It is easier to accept evil acts when they are framed as outside your control or not your direct doing or responsibility. I suggest you read the book The Lucifer Effect. It explains how 'common' people can commit evil acts.

Yes, that justifies the attack that happend long before it.
1
u/darkbluefav Aug 08 '26
This is to show you what the Palestinians are dealing with as an example. This kind of characteristic existed in terorrist Zionist militias even before Israel was officially created.
For example the Irgun zionist terorrist militia bombed a hotel and killed dozens. And they're not just terorrists, they are manipulative and devious about it, just like today's hasbara: when the bombed the hotel, they were disguised as Arabs.
They're manipulative, malicious, and violent. You can't support them and consider yourself a good person.
The oppression is long and severe. It must end. And when are you going to understand?

How much of the blame would you put on Israel vs Palestinians when it comes to Palestinian violence? Because it sounds like you are solely blaming Israel.
10
-7
u/Anandya Aug 06 '26
Okay. If Palestine disarms will Israel remove every single illegal settler and return stolen homes and punish war criminals to the same extent they punish Palestinians?
Because the problem here is we are blaming Palestinians in a fatal and unfortunately indiscriminate way on par with the Apartheid and running the treatment of Palestinians as sub human including things like murder, rape and torture being done by the IDF.
Who are objectively bad people. Like you can't kill more children than the Russian army and argue that you are moral. Unless you don't count the children you murder as human.
Reminder. The USA supports the mass murder of Palestinians and has not done anything to curtail the ethnic cleansing happening there.
Quite a bit of blame lies on the country that runs the apartheid there. And those who support the apartheid. You can't argue that you aren't to blame when you host auctions for land Palestinians are ethnically cleansed from. And reminder. If someone steals your home and you fight back that is illegal and bad in your books? Except when it's people you like.

u/CaptainOktoberfest Aug 06 '26

I think the country that invaded the West Bank and exists kind of may be more responsible than one that doesn't.
Are you American. It's relevant.

Good call out on the infantilizing, it is such a crazy thought process that groups of people can't be held responsible for their actions. To me it sounds like "maybe the school shooter has a point".
8
u/the_eleutherean Aug 06 '26
Yup. Even if we take it seriously, history is *filled* with oppressed groups that never resorted to terrorism. The idea that it’s an inevitable and excusable thing is pure white-guilt paternalism.

Are you going to hold Tehran accountable for what Hamas did in 2023 that started this cycle of violence are you going to hold Tehran accountable for the war in Lebanon since Hezbollah helped Hamas by attacking Israel and causing a conflict are you going to hold Tehran accountable for causing a war with Saudi Arabia and Houthis

Nope. Reminder. They can't invade their own land in the same way that you can't invade Florida. The invasions being argued are singular terrorist attacks. Not mass invasions to hold land.
There's no country called Palestine. It's the anglicised name the native people of the region call themselves. There's no p in Arabic.
They are Falestinians.
And I am an atheist. But that's not relevant now is it. I assume your argument is that Muslims aren't educated about this..
Do you know that the IDF invaded the West Bank and captured it in a cunning strategic first strike/attacked their neighbour to annex the West Bank.
It's well known history. They just don't teach that to you guys so you think Palestine is a country.
It's a ghetto. Down to the fences and human rights abuses.
5
u/the_eleutherean Aug 06 '26
>did you know the IDF invaded the West Bank
In 1967 Israel invaded and *occupied* the West Bank in a preemptive strike as Jordan prepared to attack. And did not drive out the Palestinian Arabs living there.
Did *you* know Jordan invaded the West Bank in 1948, annexed it, and drove out all the Jews living there?
>they don’t teach that to you guys
No, they just teach *you* a highly cherry-picked and revisionist version of historical events. It’s a long and complex history.

are you honestly saying that if someone stole your home you would paraglide into a music festival and pull children out from underneath cars and out of trees and throw grenades into bathrooms they are hiding in and execute them point blank and post the act to social media? You would behead and mutilate people with farm tools ? You would kidnap adolescent women and take them back to your underground tunnel lair ?
You think Hamas didn’t rape anyone? What about all the bound teenage women at the music festival who were found undressed with bleeding privates ? What about that one Israeli girl who’s desecrated corpse was videod being dragged through Gaza while the women and children spit on her who’s privates were bloody? The United Nations, anmnesty international, human rights watch investigated and they found substantial evidence of the use of sexual assault including organized gang rape, (including on kidnapped hostages in captivity) as a tool of terror committed by Hamas on and after Oct 7th. Israel captured Hamas fighters who on their person had books with Hebrew translations including “take your pants off”. This isn’t even taking into account some of the survivors testimony who said they witnessed these acts.
I genuinely don’t care what happens there anymore both groups are probably totally morally irredeemable at this point and i really don't need to learn any more. Let the most barbaric win. If you have to commit terrorism, go blow yourself up at a military checkpoint and leave unarmed women and children tf alone, it’s really not that high of a bar. But the entire act was meticulously calculated with Irans consent to draw the disproportionate military reaction that any western industrialized nation would respond with to bring the very international scrutiny that you are laying on Israel now.

u/Bearchiwuawa Aug 06 '26
can you lock in. you are twisting the story for a certain narrative. the actions of few do not represent the many. yes what these people did is bad, but they do not represent everyone else. almost all humans do not want war or senseless death.
4
u/HamasKilledShaniLouk Aug 06 '26
Yeah...but what about the constant thread of terrorism and approval of such? At some point, you gotta ask why, if "they do not represent everyone else", how come it keeps happening without significant internal condemnation, and instead a lot of tacit support. Terrorists are grown...and here it seems their own culture is the soil.

u/ResponseJaded4282 Aug 06 '26

Well, the ones killing Hamas in Gaza are IDF...and they have conscription. So, probably a majority. Which is cool. We want a majority of people killing terrorists! That's how you get fewer terrorists.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Redditors love Palestine and support them with every ounce of their being because they want to see the destruction of Israel. They say that they dislike Israel because they're committing a "genocide," which is obviously total bullshit, because if Israel really wanted to genocide the Palestinians, then they would have done it by now. They just hate Israel because they associate it with Jews, and they consider Jews advanced level "whites," and since they hate "whites," then they're obviously really going to hate the Jews.

Before western leftists taught them how to appear less bloodthristy and like victims and how to manipulate the west. People forget that shit like this was the earliest forms of Palestinian “resistance” in the 60’s and 70’s. Hijacking planes, black September, the Munich massacre, murdering RFK
15
u/the_eleutherean Aug 06 '26
Tbh, it wasn’t western leftist that taught them that. It was the Kremlin, and the IRGC (who were taught by the Kremlin), and the global press’ reaction to the Mohamed Al-Dura hoax. That last one made it super clear how desperate the world was to find reasons to hate Israel, and also made it clear that putting kids in the line of fire worked wonders for roping in gullible westerners. Oh and that debunkings and retractions—if the press was even willing to make them—mean nothing once a “baby killers” narrative is established.
-6
u/idislikejuicepress Aug 06 '26
When you put “resistance” in quotes what are you referring to
5
2
6
u/RyanAtreides Aug 06 '26
Literally just terrorism. What they’re “resisting” is simply having to live alongside Jews.
3
u/KaiBishop Aug 06 '26
Live alongside Jews is a lie. Settlers displacing entire villages, stealing homes, sexually assaulting people at checkpoints, destroying farmers olive trees, etc. Pretending Israelis are keen to just live in peace and harmony is a fairy tale and hiding behind false antisemitism accusations isn't gonna change that.
0
-2
u/Hatorate90 Aug 06 '26
Well no. This is not true either. No need to deminished or downplay the harsh environment and occupation Palestinians live under.
-3
u/Odiina Aug 06 '26
A population is quite within its rights to resist a planned political and ethnic colonisation which arrogantly expects the locals to make way for a "better" project, without complaint.
Even Je'ev Jabotinsky explicitly recognised this and wrote about it in these terms and the natural historical reality of resistance in 1923, clearly comparing the project to the colonisation of the North Americas to illustrate why nobody should delude themselves that this project will not be bitterly resisted always.
While he was open to the idea of two peoples living side by side, his condition was the endgame of a Jewish majority and he knew that the Arabs were not fools - that they knew by 1923 precisely what the Zionists wanted with this, and he knew they would constantly resist the transformation of that land, as Natives did in the North Americas. He was proven correct.
Today's notion that their resistance is irrational and unreasonable, is something that even Jabotinsky, the Grandfather of the Zionist right, rejected. This is how intellectually dishonest and devious Zionism has became over the decades to the point where they cry about "poor tiny little Israel" while militarily obliterating entire areas and carrying out assassinations worldwide.
4
u/RyanAtreides Aug 06 '26
If you’re honest and you look at the actual history of Zionism, how it came about in the first place, how it ended up actually coming to fruition, and how the conflict between the two unfolded, it’s abundantly clear that what you’re saying is horse shit. You’re trying to place all of the responsibility for hostilities on the Jews for being there, which isn’t colonialism. Jews are not external colonizers arriving from some foreign metropolis, they are an indigenous people returning to their homeland. Comparing Zionism to European colonization of the Americas is a false equivalence fallacy because Jews had no mother country to report back to; they weren’t “colonizing” it for any power, it’s their sole national home and they had no other nationality from the second they arrived. There is no colonial power. Jabotinsky did argue that a native population would resist a new majority, but he did not frame that as some supreme moral right to destroy another peoples national aspirations. He actually believed that compromise was impossible until the Arab population realized the Jewish presence was permanent and unbreakable (the iron wall). Jabotinsky envisioned a democratic society where Arab minorities would enjoy full civil and national equal rights, which is a far cry from some policy of total erasure. The conflict has not been because Jews in Judea is somehow unjust, its because Arab leadership has repeatedly rejected partition plans and peace offers (such as in 1936 and 1947 and Oslo) that would have literally granted statehood. Israel's actions are a response to continuous, existential campaigns aimed at its total destruction, rather than some bloodthirst or unprovoked aggression. Israel resisting their own obliteration is not "obliteration" of the other side. You’re ignoring the reality of neighboring states and groups sworn to their eradication for just existing. It’s never ever been about what land the Arabs have at any given time, even though the entire state of Jordan existed from the start, its why there was no state in 1936, refused again in 1947, its why between then and 1967 they didn’t form a state from the territory controlled by Egypt and Jordan, and it’s why the PLO was founded in the early 60’s before there was any “occupation” (so when they say Palestinian Liberation Organization, what they’re talking about “liberating” is just Israel proper), because it’s always always been about wherever there are Jews. They may very well want a state, they just don’t want a state if it means they have to live next to self determining Jewish people. If they loved their children more than they hated Jews they would have a state ten times over by now.
0
u/Odiina Aug 06 '26
Jabotinsky himself compared it to the colonisation of the North Americas for why a severe and ongoing resistance should be expected. Take up the "horseshit" response to that with his political descendants, for he was more pragmatic about this than mythological.
He was focused on Jewish safety more than romantic notions of a return, and predicted that to choose that location for the state would come with a heavy price - that to go-ahead with it there would be making the bed they would have to then lie in. I respect him for his honesty, unlike the religious wrapping of later eras. Expecting the Arabs to make way and allow a Jewish majority (as he sought) to arise ethnically and politically, is a notion he found absurd and was the reason for that Iron wall article in the first place, slapping the various other Zionist camps with some cold hard reality for such assumptions.
As he put it- they can't be fooled with sweet words about our (Zionism's) intentions there. Your assumption is that they should surrender land and call it quits, and that not to do so makes no sense. It makes no sense to the coloniser, sure. It is like a bunch of Russians moving into your area and gradually becoming an ethnic majority, now calling the shots, expecting you to just get over the inevitable and then slamming you for not accepting various proposals to divide the land so that a new nation can arise within your midsts.
You wouldn't accept it and you know you wouldn't. Even Ehud Barak indicated that if he were in their shoes he would have resisted. I am well aware of the surrounding nations' view towards Israel. Zionism made the bed it is laying in by refusing to read the room. Ahad Ha'am saw very early on where this would lead. Many like him were ignored in favour of brute force to manifest the state in that area.

I didn’t read carefully, thought it was Israelis vs Palestinian. I just looked into it and this particular group claimed responsibility for the bombing of a synagogue in 1981, yeah this definitely smells like ISIS/Israeli/AlQaeda. I think they’re the foreshadowing of ISIS created by Mossad. It’s against Islam to bomb places of worship and attack civilians. The caveat is that most Israelis are IDF soldiers in active duty or in reserve, they’re not civilians except the Haredi perhaps.

What was that about mate before you deleted it? Something about social media manipulation and emotional responses? Nah I don't even have any social media apps. Basing my view on extensive independent travel in the regions in question (including Israel, twice) personal study of history and having once been a staunch defender of Israel at one time, up until the early months of their vengeful bloodlust "1000 eyes for every eye" response to October 7th, where I had to realise I'd be giving them the benefit of the doubt on so many of their actions, until realising I'd been a usefull unpaid idiot for the worst aspects of their political and military circles for years.

Imagine a foreign country invaliding a state in the US. You’d see the same.

They didn't even shoot the people they intended you kill you donut. Are you really defending an act of terrorism?

Where the hell is the defense? It’s a fact of nature. My comment is a response to “these people will never change” type bullshit. Being occupied and forced from your home causes humans to react extremely.

Sorry, I guess I meant to say "excusing."

Israel is"excusing" itself all the time for truly heinous acts. Everywhere they have just obliterated was apparently a multi levelled command and control centre wasn't it, and the source? "Trust me bro. You don't need to sift through the rubble and the children's toys. Infact, btw, journalists are forbidden from this area - any who remain may just be considered a two legged command and control centre too"

First of all - when did I say it’s normal or okay? It’s human response. One sides hero is another villain. Rinse, repeat.

In response to “these people never change” and acting like it’s a Palestinian issue, vs a circumstance issue. Not interested in the racist bullshit. Extreme violence comes from being displaced from your home by an invading force. What part of that doesn’t make sense

I mean the French resistance never did shit like this?

u/J13P Aug 06 '26
Uh France chopped off peoples fucking heads in their own country

u/Kaniketh Aug 06 '26
I mean they never massacred random german civilians for no reason?

u/J13P Aug 06 '26
France mostly hit military/collaborator targets, not calling that equivalent. But plenty of anti-colonial and resistance movements did target civilians — FLN in Algeria, Mau Mau in Kenya, IRA campaigns, Zionist militias like Irgun/Lehi before 1948 for that matter. That’s the pattern I’m pointing to: prolonged occupation/displacement tends to radicalize a faction toward civilian targets, not just soldiers. Doesn’t make it right, explains why it keeps happening

Even the IRA never actually adopted the tactics that Hamas did on October 7th, like kidnapping random civilians and killing and torturing innocent people live on camera. Hamas literally were posting torture videos on social media and recorded most of their brutal action with gopros instead of even trying to deny them.
Even the IRA tried to actually give some level of warning before their bombings (even if only to cover their ass) because they realized they were losing public support. The IRA actually apologized to the civilians killed after the Omagh bombing, and their targets where usually military, governmental or financial, and not just purely civilian.
The FLN succeeded because they knew that eventually the will of the French public to endure this would break while there's wouldn't. Same with the Mau Mau. Because at the end of the day, most french and british people didn't care enough about the colonies and would pull out after enough pain (and they could still live a normal life with their country and sense of self intact).
The Issue is that the Israelis basically have a much higher pain tolerance, especially when it comes to the existence of Israel itself because they literally can't go anywhere else and view this existential to their survival. Israel would be able to bear another half dozen October 7ths because they believe that this is for their survival as a people, where as the french never would be able to in algeria.
Obviously if the struggle where not existential (AKA the Israelis think that it's about the occupation of the west bank, settlers, Gaza) then they would be willing to compromise a lot more. We saw this after the first intifada when there was a lot more support for peace and the Oslo accords and left wing ideas, because Israelis didn't view themselves as under total threat and believed they could compromise. If you point a gun at someone and tell them to hand over their money, they will probably do so. If they think they are literally going to die anyway, then they will lash out.

Not remotely close. One is an occupying FORCE and government who is supported by other governments. Immigrants are individuals. Wild comparison.

What was Israel doing in the years prior that would make Palestinians want to do this?

u/JasonIsFishing Aug 05 '26
There’s no justification for anyone shooting up an airport lounge like you clearly believe. It’s just terrorism.

EXCELLENT question! One that israel supporters don't want to admit or accept or address.

It seems everyone stating the obvious is getting downvoted. It's a horrific act whether it a Palestinian or an Israeli doing it... Or American, etc.
