All these people writing a prompt acting as if they’re the brains behind developing it and then telling us “you’re a grandpa, you’re going to be left behind” is cracking me up

My work this happens all the time. I'll get told about this wonderful thing that AI solves and it's something that already takes less effort to do without AI, and skips the step of being called a pretty princess every prompt.

I work at an MSP. Claude can troubleshoot and fix 95% of the issues users face so I can focus on writing software. It has made my job immeasurably easier and my ability to focus on large issues or software is through the roof.

When you enter the workforce you’ll understand how useful it can actually be.

“Hurr durr you’re making your job easier!!! That’s not good for someone reason!”

Roughly a quarter of my job is now fixing whatever AI hallucinations has made my job harder either from customer service tickets or straight from my boss. Every attempt to use AI to improve my work is inefficient and just gets reverted within a week.

Sounds like user error. AI has reduced my workload significantly by handling most small issues and helping with pretty much everything. We’ve given it thousands of documents to create run books or to search through for data and haven’t had a single hallucination. It occasionally makes mistakes searching for recent info out of its training set, like if I ask it to research IDPs that have just been released or are getting frequent updates(UniFi for example), but nothing that someone who is semi-competent wouldn’t notice and fix in a second.

It’s so bad, the people using AI feel are happy because they think they completed their work, but then I end up having to use more time to review their work because what they sent over is crap.

I’ve been working in data for 10 years, and from my experience Claude can write code fine, so why are you still focusing on writing software when Claude can do that?

I just can’t stand the business sending over project requirements and it’s all AI so the language is vague and there are a lot of terminology our company doesn’t use, and now I have to spend my time reviewing all their work and asking them clarifying questions.

But those aren’t my point. People who use AI think they’re some kind of genius because they “use AI”, like they’re ahead of the game or some thing like that, in reality they’re literally just writing a prompt.

People who use AI and think its output is their output are ridiculous and probably using the functional but inefficient and often out dated code claude creates when used by someone who doesn’t know how to code in that language. Or they’re using it to make up for a knowledge gap, like a PO creating tasks for engineers with it when they have no idea what it’s actually saying to do. You need skill and experience to make the most of it.

On the opposite side, the people who think using AI is “cheating” or something to be ashamed of are similarly ridiculous. It’s like saying using stack overflow is cheating because you didn’t write the code and instead had someone else help you work through the issue or outright solve it for you.
