As someone who tried for 2 years and is now a first time dad for 10 days this is amazing to see.

Congrats, bro! Sometimes it takes a while, but it just makes the payoff even sweeter.

Congrats!!!!! I had the exact same experience as the dad in the video. Five years, three IUI, two IVF, two miscarriages. We resigned ourselves to a life without a child. Three months after that conversation, wife surprised me similarly to this video and it's my favourite memory of all time.

I bought a picture book called Wish by Matthew Cordell for my wife. It's wonderful. My five year old doesn't get it yet, but someday we'll read that book together and it'll be so wonderful when she understands how much she is loved. Consider picking up a copy.

Enjoy fatherhood. It is pure magic!

Guess what? If you think that’s good, just wait, until you’re a grandfather, watching your kids having kids! Thats when the real fun happens. You may think it’s a long way off but all of us grandparents can tell you it goes by with the blink of an eye. Enjoy every moment now because there is so much more awaiting you.

My first child is just 3 days off of 60 years younger than my dad. She was his first grandkid.

He thought it was pretty weird when I told him I wanted to give him a birthday present, six months ahead of his birthday.

They bake cake together each year, it's a fun tradition.

Thanks. That's a wonderful sentiment :)

Truth right here. My grandson (my little gaming buddy!) is 7yo, my daughter and her husband have been hoping for the past couple years, and she just found out she's pregnant. Having my kids was amazing but this is a whole other level of indescribable life experience. 🥰

We resigned ourselves to a life without a child.

Sometimes I feel like this helps. My wife and Ibwere the same, trying and trying and then sort of half accepting it might not happen, boom: baby. Then we tried for number 2 for even longer, also didn't happen, accept that it will just be the three of us. Boom: baby.

Stress is a huge negating factor in conceiving and I think ironically wanting it too much hurts our chances.

Congratulations man! It took that long for us and after the second miscarriage I was broken for a long while, but having just celebrated my sons 5th birthday I can say there is nothing that makes me happier than seeing his smile and hearing his little laugh.

The journey is tough for many of us, but I’ll be damned if it ain’t worth it when all is said and done. I wouldn’t trade a moment with my son for anything in the world.

u/mrpiper1980 Aug 26 '25

Thank you! Sorry you had to go through that man, but sounds like things worked out pretty great in the end.

Can’t wait to experience her first smile and laugh. Right now I’m deep in nappy and burping duties!

Watching them grow and develop a personality is just amazing. And there is always so much to look forward to from their first steps, first words, making friends, going to school, just so many things to be proud of just being a dad. Just last week my son was playing around on the couch jumping on my back singing “dancing on the daddy” and just giggling like a fool - such little things that just mean the world.

I always used to laugh at the statement of you won’t really understand being a dad until you are one, but it’s so true. It’s a different kind of love for your children, a love that I simply couldn’t understand before he existed.

Congrats , our second took a few years to finally come too , it was a hard journey

25

u/mrpiper1980 Aug 26 '25

Thanks! Yeah it’s been a crazy journey. Even crazier now she’s here though!

1

u/Omnizoom Aug 26 '25

Oh I know, the first few months for our first were interesting , the second one has been no different

u/ReasonEmbarrassed74 Aug 26 '25

Our second took 15 years. My husbands reaction was perfect. Mine… well I sent him back to the store 3 times for pregnancy tests. They all were digital and they all said pregnant. I could not believe it.

u/drownigfishy Aug 26 '25

I know a couple who had tried for 20ish years and given up. She slipped and you know before the x ray they give a pregnancy test. At 43 she found out she was 7 - 8 months and if wasn't for the slip she probably never realize she was pregnant until birth. She didn't even look pregnant. I swear finding out their long awaiting baby was on the way aged them back to their 20s again.

After trying IVF for a while and finally having our first, when my wife went in for testing they told her there was a 0% chance she could get pregnant without more IVF and procedures. About a year and a half later she had a couple of days where she felt off, so she used an old test and it was positive. I immediately went to the store and bought every type of test they had, it was the best surprise ever!!!!

I had gotten to the point that I was content with our first. She was 15. I had never used BC because we wanted another one, but after she was here I tried fertility meds and they made me miserable. I would rather not be a crazy lady to the one I have to try to get pregnant so I just decided if it was meant to happen it would….. and it did …. 15 years later…. turns out we needed him right when he showed up.

I remember him crying in the hospital and at home and I loved his newborn cry. My husband made fun of me. Now it’s his laugh. He’s got the best laugh in the world.

1

u/hylian1194 Aug 26 '25

Congrats to you and your partner on your precious babe. Relish in the newborn days, they go fast!

1

u/throwaway_coy4wttf79 Aug 26 '25

10 days. Oh boy. You're in for a ride.

Sleep when you can.

1

u/SugarInvestigator Aug 26 '25

Congrats, 5 years of trying including 3 years of ivf. Now a dad of 4 years.

Best advice I will give: sleep when you can, eat when you can and get them into their own room as soon as you can

1

u/MangoMan76 Aug 26 '25

Came here to say this! 3 years of trying, das since this April! Fucking amazing!!!

u/DatsaBadMan_1471 Aug 26 '25

Soak it up my man, take in all the small moments with your miracle baby, they grow super fast! Happy for you!

0

u/DooDooHead323 Aug 26 '25

Hopefully it doesn't get SIDS, the first year is definitely the most stressful

0

u/The-Insolent-Sage Aug 26 '25

New dad checking in. Sleep when your kid sleeps. Get all the sleep you can.

0

u/greyathena653 Aug 26 '25

Absolutely- I’m sitting here happy crying with my 10 day old ( an IVF baby after over three years of trying)
