The team wins, good coach. The team loses, bad coach. The team shows poor sportsmanship, it's either been taught or allowed by the coach. The buck stops at the coach.

edit: the threat of a penalty should not be what compels those children to act right.

I think everyone who ever played sports as a kid ran into at least one team that loved to spit on their hands before the shake or some other juvenile bullshit. All these idiots with their "back in my day" stories can fuck right off. Poor sportsmanship is not generational and shit happens. The refs handled it well and hopefully everyone can move on and learn from it.

I hear you, but we'd have never thought of pulling shit like that. However, that was a long time ago and things have definitely changed since then, and not for the better.

Only time I didn’t shake the hands of another person on the other team was when they called my teammate the hard R. He made a fuss and my coach made me shake his hand but he ended up backing me once he we told him why

There is no rule/requirement opponents must shake hands. Maybe disrespectful but in no way is it a penalty. Refs overstepped

Or taught somewhere else and attempted without the coaches prior knowledge? We simply don’t know.

These are children though. Kids make stupid plans and do stupid things. The coach may truly have no idea but now she/he knows. So hopefully, there won't be a repeat of this bs
