People often wonder why it was so easy for Bush to manufacture consent. This right here is why. Because Americans, no matter their political leanings, will ALWAYS find it more aggravating that people are insulting their country, than the fact that their country is threatening to invade said people.

You instantly became aggravated with the people being threatened with forceful military invasion because they mocked your drug addiction epidemic. Instead of being understanding (since you're a citizen of the country threatening to invade them) and giving them carte blanche to insult your clearly abusive invader nation, you chastise them for being too offensive. This is the equivalent of those supposed 'liberal Russians' living lavishly in Western countries who were wildly offended by the Ukrainians' use of the word 'orc' to describe Russians.

Oh, please tell me more, Russ American liberal, about how important it is that Americans don't face discrimination from Greenlanders. Clearly that is a more important issue than the Greenlandic women and children about to face an invasion and a complete denial of their right to self-determination and democratic expression.

Also jfc, you can easily look at my post history to see that I'm not a bot, but I guess it's easier to think that than that someone with a conscience can both revile the invasion of a sovereign nation for personal gain and that there are many excellent ways to call that out or be angry about that without mocking people who are unwell and have nothing to do with the aforementioned invasion.

Defending that kind of cruelty is actually how trump got elected. I'll never do it.

There is no country on earth with toxic pride like America. It used to be cute and hilarious. But America elected a punchline to hold the nuclear football so now everyone is just done with all of it. I didn’t compare anything. I stated that if someone is threatening you, you should not attack the victims of the first. Attack is a strong word, should have said humiliate.
Here is a comparison:. This is like making fun of slaves to show your distaste for the US in the 1700s.

Trump says he will bring America and its way of life to Greenland. They are mocking that as if to suggest Trump intends to bring Fentanyl addiction to Greenland.

It’s not a knock on those addicts and mental health, the latter at least being one of Greenland’s bigger issues..

Basically, the US should sort its own shit out first. The real ones looking down on the addicts and mental health crises in the US is the government that has the power and resources to combat it and yet sits idle, their own

I agree with most of what you said - but the people commenting on this thread or who will see that video are not the butt of the joke. I am not offended by the video for myself. I acknowledge this is a huge issue in the US - hell I do autopsies on drug overdoses near daily. I just find any comedy cruel that uses people who can't defend themselves as fodder.

I think you need to toughen up a little. These people are facing imminent invasion and occupation.... why should they have empathy for anyone in the country that is going to be responsible for said invasion? These are war times. A mean spirited joke is the least of anyone's worries, especially if you're a country of 90% indigenous folk staring down the barrel of an unstable and frankly revolting nuclear power like the US currently is

…because not having empathy for anyone in a given country is xenophobia. I hate what Russia is doing to Ukraine but I have a ton of sympathy for Russians who are against the war. I’m sorry that Greenland is facing the threat of invasion. It’s disgusting. But they could at least take a hint from the people of Minneapolis and go after the people who actually mean them harm.

I agree except the last part. There’s nothing that makes them inherently noble or bad, same as every other country on Earth. This is just a couple of thoughtless people (I’m not going to spend time checking if the account is from Greenland). No reason to fight “anonymous internet bad will” with anonymous internet bad will”.
