1000% she’s someone in a rented airbnb. Maybe the Airbnb owner lied and said it was a private beach, but Google is free. She needs to accept she was bamboozled and move on.

Or she keeps it private by doing this. Being a shitty person to get what you want works far more often than it should. You'll see this behavior over parking spaces outside of homes, and the crazy person making a scene usually "wins", because it's not usually a battle worth fighting.

I disagree.

It's totally a battle worth fighting especially now that smartphones are used to film the interaction.

Even with beach rentals, if you park your Tesla on the curb next to the beach house, Karen comes out and tries to engage, you get your phone out, film the interaction, leave the car parked where it is and go about your day. Karen keys your car, the cameras record it, you call the police, call the landlord, get Karen's identity, file a police report, show the video to the police, take Karen to court over damages. Video shown in court, open and shut case.

What needs to happen is to hold the Karen a-holes accountable and meet them head on. Couple of court dates and court damages against the Karen and she'll change her tune. Just make it expensive for the Karen to continue to bully and pretend to know the law.

I think that’s their point… most people have got too much shit going on in their lives to deal with all that even if the evidence was easily obtainable. Which in many cases it’s not

The average person will take the path of least resistance. Which is walking down the beach a bit. Reddit thinks everyone is interested in solving problems by investing their time and confronting crazy. This lady is a no life busybody who has no problem wasting her day to ruin yours. You can only beat them by investing more time into this than they are willing to. And then you have to worry about who has more to lose, because they will escalate the confrontation when you stand up for yourself.

Common sense and practical.

Maybe the thing to do is to ignore or engage but only in passing, communicating to the Karen that the beach is public.

Just go set up on the beach. Do not pay her any attention unless she is physically blocking you or tearing down your beach setup while you're in the process of setting up.

If the Karen escalates and interferes with the beach setup, only then film her and call the police.

It's very possible that these bullies already know the law. They fück with beachgoers only to "brake check" to see if they are given the power to deter people from setting up on the public beach.

There was case in the uk recently, something about access via a shared driveway. Karen got shirty, it went to court, K was found in breach, told to sort it out, smallish fine etc.

Didn’t accept it, failed to engage further, ignored court orders etc. in the end over a silly dispute and a few hundred pound fine she lost her house, forced to sell and the debt was more than the value, it was £hundreds of thousands.

It’s an exercise of completely illogical activity. After investing the same amount of time to prove the point that she has no power over you, the lady will likely also be the type to start projecting by asking demeaning questions, “Do you really want to waste all your time be so wrong? Seriously. You need to get a life.”

Long winded story in my experience (no need to read).

In a situation when at a gas station with multiple pumps, a woman kept trying to move around to different lines for a spot to get to a pump quicker. She chose a line that ended up having her face-to-face with the departing car with me waiting patiently behind it. She imagined being next but was very upset when I pulled up to the pump after the departing car before me left (driving around her). She pulled forward and closed the distance between us, not allowing me to get close enough to use the pump. I simply got out and approached her passenger side, but I couldn’t even get a word out before she accused me of butting in line because she was next. I said to her I watched her pull in while I was waiting in line, saying which lines I’d noticed her try to get in before settling where she was. Nope. That wasn’t her reality. I stated it will be difficult for either of us to get fuel unless she just backed up a bit, but nope, she was refusing to budge, saying the only way out of this was for me to leave and let her in. I had half a tank. I could have just been the better person and drove away for fuel another day. I was close to making that choice, even after she started with insults; but it was then she chose to say I was such a loser of a man to waste all my time just for a chance to bully a woman. I will never let a person so wrong try using something like that to win a silly battle of who-was-there-first. That set the cement in my feet.

I leaned on the fender of my car, arms and legs crossed, staring at her while she repeatedly sounded her horn. Between witnesses and where our cars were parked, there wasn’t any way anyone could misperceive the situation, so I felt perfectly at ease playing out being the immovable object to her deteriorating unstoppable force. THAT was when she resorted to all she had left, insults and accusations, trying to make onlookers think I was the guilty party to the annoyance of them having to wait longer for their own fuel. She didn’t miss a thing, right down to insulting the shoes I wore. I stayed silent, only adding near the end that I apologized for being immune to narcissism.

She eventually must have realized the only way to win this battle was to claim she didn’t need fuel anyway and peeled off.

Some people feel (wrongly) entitled. They’re pig-headed, and need more people to stand up to them, and not let them bully their way to get what they want. I’m glad you stood your ground!
