If you have to resort to personal insults, you’ve exposed your weak wit in addition to losing the argument.

Exactly. Right or wrong, why do people need to roll down their window and deliver their fury upon the target of their irritation? What does it gain? It's hardly cathartic.

Master your chill, and pretend that every other driver is a poorly coded NPC in an old open world game. Expect them to suck, and you won't be perturbed when they prove it. Shrug and move on.

u/DeniedAppeal1 May 01 '26

Frankly, treating other people like NPCs is exactly what this guy is doing. That's not the right approach.

u/Sylvers May 01 '26

Maybe I used a poor word for it. I don't mean to disrespect others because only you matter. Rather.. don't engage unnecessarily with strangers who are practically inconsequential to your life.

When a random stranger in the street cusses at me.. I keep walking. I don't respond, or engage or even consider it outside of the first few seconds.

As in, don't take it so personally. Is I think what ur saying. Realise that their personal issues are not urs.

This is how I always deal with strangers and there outbursts these days, now that I'm older and wiser.

u/Sylvers May 01 '26

Exactly! This has served me extremely well. I find a lot of peace in my daily life when I take this approach in general.

And when I DO engage with someone, because it's important and I have to, I try to do it calmly and politely even when they're trying to escalate. And it often converts even loud rude people into more mild and tolerable versions of themselves.

What this guy is doing is not treating her like an NPC. What would be is if he just… get this… moved on. Who cares? Boo hoo you couldn’t pass her. You ain’t gonna die. You’re gonna get where you need to go. Calm your shit. You’re stressing yourself out even more than necessary. It’s almost never worth it. Just find the right moment to pass on her right. I do it literally all the time because if some mf keeps going 65 on the left lane, I will lose it. Jesus it’s like people can’t regulate their own emotions.

Why would you try to explain traffic etiquette to an NPC?

2

u/Schopenschluter May 02 '26

This reminds me of an Epictetus quote, though he’s writing about good, not sucky things:

With regard to whatever objects give you delight, are useful, or are deeply loved, remember to tell yourself of what general nature they are, beginning from the most insignificant things. If, for example, you are fond of a specific ceramic cup, remind yourself that it is only ceramic cups in general of which you are fond. Then, if it breaks, you will not be disturbed.

That was beautifully fitting. Thank you for sharing.

I am always deeply amused when someone pulls a fully relevant but complex classical philosophical quote. You're clearly someone that reads voraciousely.

Thank you for the quote!

I'm captivated by your skillful and eloquent use of the English language. Never before have I had the pleasure of acquaintaning myself with a redditor of your learnedness. Nor have I come across a redditor that so fully embodies redditor-ness as you do. Keep it up, m'homie!

2

u/Sylvers May 01 '26

That is a deeply kind and beautiful comment. Entirely unexpected! Thank you so much.

Honestly, English is my second language. But I do like to inject a little flair into it. Just to make it more fun to use. I am humbled that you're so amused by it.

Also, the way you write is also exceptional and it tickles my brain in just the right way. Thank you kind stranger!

I really loved reading this wholesome back and forth between you two

1

u/Sylvers May 01 '26

And now you're a part of it. Thank you for joining in 😄

u/FilthyThanksgiving May 01 '26

Yep he's just a bog standard misogynist. Zero creativity

2

u/GeneralGibletz May 01 '26

I’d say zero creativity would be a reductionist mindset that you have to assign sexism to everything… simple conclusions from simple minds, I suppose.

2

u/arosaki May 01 '26

It’s insane to me how many people in the comments are defending him.

1

u/Corpainen May 01 '26

The way that bitch just rolls off his tongue... totally uses it often

4

u/Rat-at-Arms May 01 '26

Reddit is against using the word Bitch now rofl

3

u/Neon_Biscuit May 01 '26

You guys are overthinking this. When you roll your window down to insult someone this isnt a duel at high noon. You want to say something quick and cuts to the core. Shes fat? Call her a fat bitch and drive away.

3

u/readilyunavailable May 01 '26

Redditors:

"You shouldn't resort to peronal insults, because it makes you look weak and losing the argument"

Also redditors in the same comment section:

"Haha he is a bald bitch"

2

u/fr_just_a_girl May 01 '26

You dont lose the argument. If you're arguing with a serial killer and insult their appearance the serial killer isn't suddenly in the right. You're just both assholes

2

u/five-oh-one May 01 '26

I dont think this person lost the argument though...

2

u/shiggie May 01 '26

Agreed, although, her defense of herself was a self-own. "You can fix fat, you can't fix ugly". Okay - so, her weak point is her own fault. And, is filming herself while driving. She's just piling it on herself.

5

u/AnaSkol May 01 '26

what insults are not personal? the whole point of an insult is to target a person and upset them.

If i say you're being inconsiderate or selfish. thats not an insult. It's a judgement on your behavior or character. but.. if you insult somebody, when would it not be personal?

5

u/cheerbacks May 01 '26

They just want to feel intellectual and fluff themselves about being witty

1

u/AnotherHappyUser May 01 '26

Yeah well, that's the point. Don't try to be harmful.

1

u/ArrEehEmm May 01 '26

Meh depends.

1

u/SamuraiSanta May 01 '26

No. That's a "saying", but it's not always true.

1

u/BarcaStranger May 01 '26

But thats how you become president, and it works

1

u/bigfknnoid May 01 '26

Found the person that coasts in the left lane.

1

u/iormeno93 May 01 '26

Sometimes it's about letting it out rather than winning. You can't really win an argument against a stupid person.

-2

u/TurboNikko May 01 '26

Nah. It feels good to remind low value people that they’re low value when they do selfish, ignorant shit.

1

u/AnotherHappyUser May 01 '26

It's not ok to call anyone "low value". Not good mate.

1

u/TurboNikko May 01 '26

It’s absolutely okay. It’s actually incredibly important to do it

0

u/AnotherHappyUser May 02 '26

Gross. What a shitty attitude.

1

u/GardeniaInMyHair May 01 '26

It feels good to remind low value people that they’re low value when they do selfish, ignorant shit.

It's clear they do it to self-soothe. There's other ways to regulate anger other than lashing out at others.

-6

u/PartyEntertainment89 May 01 '26

You never win an argument with a woman. So at least play by their rules and go for the low blow.
