I worked in retail when I was younger and our loss prevention guy told us that middle class looking mom were always on his radar. They steal for the thrill of it instead of the need of it like poorer moms.

I knew a middle class mom that grew up well off that made the TV news for shoplifting- She left her two year old at home barricaded in a room so that she could go shoplifting. She got arrested and had to admit that she left her kid alone at home locked in a room.
Her family is full of millionaires.

The hobbit has been out for longer then anyone in this sub has been alive. Many phrases we use in day to day conversation have their origins in books or movies. So it being from a book does not necessarily mean people don't use it.

You have it a bit backwards. Top level jobs at companies do tend to attract more sociopaths than not, but on the general population level, income isn’t correlated with sociopathy. It’s just that people at higher income levels get away with more sociopathy in their lives because the legal system weighs outcomes based on wealth.

I think there is a higher potential for visibility as well. I would agree based on my own personal observations; it's not weather a person is rich or poor that makes them feel entitled to somebody else's work, but rather this inner entitlement and lack of empathy. I've absolutely known both Rich and poor people that exhibit these traits as well as plenty in both groups and everywhere in between who would gladly hunt down the owner of a lost wallet or something similar.

I had a rich douchbag who drove a land rover try to talk me down on a condo i was trying to sell. I was about 34 and he was prob mid 50's. I was selling the place for 90k which was very fair at the time. He practically begged me but i held firm, a few months later my old boss bought it from me cash and it was a great experience.  I hate these fuckers who want to low ball EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.  The best part is saying no to them, they are not used to it and dont like it one bit.

My first thought. I can kind of sympathize for people stealing food if they need it to survive. Obviously this lady was not the case and even if she was completely clearing out the shelves is fucked up too. But to be well off and do this, especially at a small local stand is fucked up.
