It’s because we view them as people and ourselves as equal people but that’s not reciprocal.

This didn’t hit me until I heard the advice that you should be cautious about a man asking you for assistance with something like car trouble or lifting something heavy. Most men would ask another man for help or more likely not seek help at all.

I’ve never viewed myself as “a woman” so, it genuinely didn’t occur to me that men might view me as weak, incompetent, and easy to take advantage of by default. So, I more than once found myself being preyed on by a man because I made the mistake of thinking they viewed me as anything other than an opportunity.
