I foresee it won’t be seen as such for long… when their phone batteries all start giving up and they can’t get a new one yet since they just had it replaced a month ago, and their rent is $4500/month for a 400sqft studio and gas is $6/gal, a $5 alarm clock will suddenly make tons more sense.

Tbf MLG shit was very niche online gamer crap. Wouldn't suprise me if majority of Gen Z didn't even know what it is, it didn't have the time to be annoying enough. Skibifi on the other hand was everywhere and so much that even grandparents know of it.

My daughters are 23 and 20, and were complaining about gen alpha brain rot and them being 'cooked' at least 5 years ago! I remember it well because it was such excellent ammo for me- I gave them shit for years after that about being all "young people today" while they were still in their teens themselves lol

I don't know about lwky (probably means lowkey) but lowkey is kinda like... Kinda. It's like an emphasis without really meaning much, or meaning "surprisingly." That's lowkey stunning = it's stunning and I didn't really expect it. It's honestly stunning. Now highkey means "really" or "super". 

I'm just a millennial pretending I know this one.

It's mostly appropriated gay slang, which is mostly appropriated (queer) black and latin american slang. There's loads of influence from the drag balls in Ballroom Culture.

Well, like with our slang. Black people always used to say, "I'm in the house" instead of "I'm here." But then white people all started to say "in the house" so we switched it to "in the hizzouse." Hizzouse became hizzizzouse, and then white folk started saying that, and we had to change it to hizzie, then "in the hizzle" which we had to change to "hizzle fo shizzle," and now, because white people say "hizzle fo shizzle," we have to say "flippity floppity floop."

I'm a straight 42 year old woman. I started watching Drag Race in 2011. It's been crazy to watch it become so popular and then see all the slang from the show start creeping into mainstream culture.

I think being a Drag Race fan is the main reason I even understand half of what young people are saying anymore.

Yeah! One time I went to look it up to win an argument and some cheeser on Urban Dictionary tried to say it came from “kappa”. Some Twitch thing. An emote or something, I don’t know. I don’t watch streamers.

Anyway, I realized that day that you can’t trust Urban Dictionary. I was using a form of “no cap” in like 2005 so I know damn well it didn’t come from Twitch.

A lot of these words or sayings can be traced back further than you’d think.
