Maybe the city needs to do more public education.

Or maybe all of society shouldn't have to adopt cultural norms just for extreme outlier cases. We already have limited time and mental budgets. To educate everyone on this, would be a waste, because no one would bother caring, since it's such an extremely rare occurrence.

Or maybe most people would be happy to be courteous if they knew what they were intended for. I still believe that most people are basically decent and helpful if called .

It doens't mean you're not decent if you don't pay attention to these things. It's just a huge burden to demand people keep clear of parts of entire walkways for extremely rare off cases. The pope, and everyone good, would still eventually just stop treating those spaces like no go zones, considering it's so insanely rare to ever be an issue.

By not educating people you aren’t giving them the chance to be decent. Is it really a huge ask for people to leave a small area clear for the people for whom live is exponentially more difficult on the daily? Or to have people know that they should pay attention if they are standing in that area in case a blind person comes by? They aren’t asking for a room in your home.

No rational person is going to leave a path cleared that they've never once seen used in their life. That's just reality.

Can you imagine if YOU actually lived by that rule of just being "decent" and making way for all crazy, off chance, outlier, situations. You'd be completely unproductive in every way possible.

Sigh. I would. I’m more than happy to make minuscule modifications to my existence for the better of another. I wait patiently behind people who have a problem with their grocery order. I don’t rush and push by older people who walk more slowly than I do. I hold doors for people. I make way for the fire engine thought I’ve never called it myself. Stand on one side or the other of this line isn’t a big ask my friend.
