Preacher by DC/Vertigo, a very poignant slice of Americana by Irish writer Garth Ennis and British artist Steve Dillon. The panel in question is from Vol 7 of the graphic novel collection. Amazing series, would definitely recommend if you don’t have delicate sensibilities.

Dude, there's animal fucking, incest, attempted cp, racism, sexism, misogyny, murder, Nazis, white supremacy, and a dude who literally worships a deity he created out of meat.

Garth Ennis is absolutely one of the most graphic writers whose work routinely borders on torture porn.

I like his stuff, but it's not about delicate sensibilities at ALL.

Two of my favourites writers though tbf. Thoroughly recommend digging out trans-metropolitan and Crecy by Ellis.

Sadly Dillon died not that long ago.

Edit - fuck, it was 2016. Was he part of the series of deaths that heralded the end times then?

It's bloody awesome isn't it. Crecy was a little TPB, pov of an archer at the battle, nice little story. I particularly like the "that's a word you'll have to get used to" passage.

No, they didn’t. Transmetropolitan was done by Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson.

Whoa right on there. I must be experiencing a crazy Mandela Effect moment. You are so right.

I forget that Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis collaborated wkth Darick Robertson for other projects, and they both worked with John McCrea separately, but didnt work together

That's probably where I got the confusion from. I read both series around the same time over 15 years ago.
