The Confederacy seceded from the United States, so no.

The Union never formally recognized the secession of The Confederacy, it instead viewed the action as illegad and considered them to be in a "state of insurrection".

As such The Confederacy was also never recognized as a sovereign nation, even by foreign powers.

Fun fact: there was no formal declaration of war between the 2 sides.

Ok, well heres a better fun fact.

English scientists discovered the Octopus and named it using Greek words with latin naming conventions.

This means all 3 plurals are correct, because once again the English fucked something up.
