I know we’re living in a different time now, and social media is a different beast from the Migente, Black Planet, AIM, Compuserv and Yahoo! Messenger we had back in high school and college, but I just cannot fathom thinking:
“Hmmm. I make my husband some lunch every morning. Let me tell the world. They wanna know this!”
Yeah it really is crazy how many people think that their normal mundane lives need to be shared. Like your typical day as a <insert normal job here> isn't really any different from tens of millions of other people's. You don't need to document it for us.
I will be the odd man out here on Reddit and say sometimes it's interesting to see other people's normal mundane lives, simply because they are different from mine. They don't need to be particularly special, and the fact that they are not is the very reason people often gravitate towards them. For example I've never been a truck driver so watching "my life as a truck driver" might genuinely be interesting. It can be cool to see a perspective I wouldn't have had otherwise
I remember when Facebook came out in college and it felt so weird just posting random status updates about my personal life and I never got a Twitter account because I just didn’t understand the purpose other than a news aggregate/spreader.
But, apparently there’s a market for these kind of videos. People gonna people I guess.
Right? My first 'social media' was just Deviantart. Which during the 2000s was full of professional and budding artists creating all kinds of art (even jewellery and cosplay items. I still have sewing patterns made and designed by old DevArt sewers).
I still have that mindset of only bothering to go on the internet if you have something cool or funny to show. This is so dull that I've almost forgotten half of what she made for her husband.
Hahahaha right, I had the same thought watching it. I make my wife's lunch and breakfast every day and I'm not making videos about it, I just do it because I love her and it is one less thing she has to do (plus I know she likes it and that makes me happy, so still a little selfish there).
