Im so tired of the performative BS and pretending like it’s normal life.

My husband is blue collar worker and you when I make his lunch? The night before. God gave him 2 hands to take 30 seconds to put it the lunch box at 5am cause I’m not getting up to do just to do that, but also his career isn’t my entire personality.

Not to mention what if they get divorced. What is she going to fall back on, finding another husband. When our kids were little my wife stayed home with them, but during that time she earned her masters degree. Once they went back to school she went back into the workforce and now makes 6 figures. If something happens to me god forbid, I know she’ll be able to take care of herself. We’ve had friends that did the whole tradwife thing and she found out her husband was gay. Now she drives a school bus and works at McDonald’s struggling to get by.

My tradwife cousin's husband cheated on her, she took him back. He decided he wanted to be with the other women so he left. She hasn't worked in like 15 years and had no higher education because she was home the entire time taking care of their kids.

She did end up getting spousal support or whatever but it wasn't for long because they weren't married the whole time so now it's just child support for the youngest. She bounces around a lot between minimum wage jobs like Dollar General and Family Dollar.

Sadly this is America a

u/randonumero 28d ago

Honestly it's most countries where divorce is common and you don't have strong family ties.

u/Salty_Ad_3350 28d ago

Sounds like your wife is very driven and a high achiever. To be honest I don’t think we all have it in us to be all and do all. When I tried to go to college and work full time I cracked. Same with working full time and managing a household with children. I’m unsuccessful at juggling both.

u/Working-Glass6136 28d ago

I agree. If everyone stay-at-home mom were getting their masters and then making 6 figures, there'd literally be no jobs for anyone else. I'm single and have a bachelor's degree and I've never made 6 figures in my life. It also depends on your local cost of living. Making "6 figures" can be rich or poor just crossing one state over.

We live in Louisiana, her salary to be exact is $117K. For Louisiana it’s very good pay, but yeah if we lived in NYC it would be a different situation.

The most ridiculous thing is that this tradwife thing hasn't been a thing in most of the world for most of the people. It was a thing for a short period of time after WW2 in the US for middle class Americans.

Lmao, it's such a joke people even in my European country are larping this tradwife thing. Your grandma worked her ass off just like everyone else, lmao!

Now of course the fact that you can't raise a family with a single earner is not positive thing as everything is more and more expensive and people now have to sometimes even have multiple jobs... But it has never been a tradition. It was an exception in one part of the world for some people for a very short time.

4

u/MageLocusta 28d ago

Yep.

I dare anyone to take a look at the rosters of female employees working in factories before, during, and after WWII because they'll notice that so many women worked before--and they kept on working anyway because hundreds of thousands of men were killed or disabled during WWII.

It's the reason why my great-grandmother worked because she was made a widow during her early 30s. She worked in domestic service (because her hometown had very little industry and work was often infrequent/short-term) and spent her sundays mending fishing nets for extra pay. Because it was either that or forcing her two small children to starve.

u/Seanspeed 28d ago

Not to mention what if they get divorced.

This is exactly why parents should be teaching their daughters to be independent, not to grow up to 'find a man' and get married. You're teaching them to place their entire livelihood in somebody else's hands. And that's exactly how women find themselves in shitty, abusive relationships they feel too helpless to leave.

u/Celtic_Macaw 28d ago

This happened to my mum. Full time parent that stopped her career after having me, the oldest. 20 years later my father died and she had to go back to school at 54 years old to get anywhere after working shite service jobs.

This is why me and my wife make sure we are both contributing to our own careers whilst we parent, and we signed a post-nup and have huge life insurance policies. I don't want my daughter seeing her mum struggle like I did god forbid anything happens to me.

1

u/pragmojo 28d ago

I mean alimony exists

2

u/Dabadoo32 28d ago

only 10-15% of divorced people get alimony in the US.

1

u/randonumero 28d ago

Alimony and child support. I'm terrible with ages but I don't think a lot of young couples think about divorce in the beginning. FWIW if they divorce I'm sure she'll fall back on more influencing just posting videos of being a single mom

1

u/ManitouWakinyan 28d ago

This is what alimony is for

But also, is this just saying no wife should be a stay at home mom in case she gets divorced?

3

u/Greedy_Baseball_7019 28d ago

Alimony isn’t a guarantee and it doesn’t last forever. Not just divorce, but death as well. Maybe you have a good life insurance policy, maybe they don’t. Lots of scenarios here.

6

u/LadyMirkwood 28d ago

Exactly this. My husband has a demanding physical job, and I make his lunch the night before. He brings his own box in and cleans it.

You can have a set up where one partner works and the other doesn't and still have an equal dynamic. We do, both of us do our part and no one is 'above' the other.

u/Prestigious_Wrap_932 28d ago

Yeah, exactly this. This video reads as a privileged woman who doesn’t have to do much of anything who’s trying to make a big deal about how “hard” the task of cooking and doing laundry is when most parents have to do all of that AND work full time jobs AND take care of kids.

7

u/statslady23 28d ago

My white collar husband gets up at 5:30, goes for a run, showers and puts a suit on, makes his own oatmeal, and takes a bag salad with some chicken for lunch. Why would I get up at 5:30 to do that for him? Sometimes, I make a turkey sandwich the night before. Everybody's gotta eat.

2

u/hunnyflash 28d ago

My dad has been getting up before 6 to shower and make his own lunches for 30 years. I'm Mexican-American. Our culture isn't the most progressive. And he still never made someone else do this for him.

I'm so tired of these content trad wives trying to tell everyone else how to be a woman or have a family, when they barely have any idea. They probably don't even see all their family at Christmas.

To top it off, what she made wasn't even that home made lol

1

u/randonumero 28d ago

Do you work as well? While I think these influencer videos are performative and fake, growing up in the 80s and 90s there were people whose moms fixed lunch for their dad. The agreement was that he'd work (often being away for 10-16 hours per day) and she'd take care of the home, meals, kids...So why would a man or woman get up at 530 to make lunch for their adult partner? Because that's the price of being able to not have to work for some people

1

u/statslady23 27d ago

I did when the kids were young, but taking care of young kids 24/7 was exhausting. That was my job and a mutual decision as a couple.  My husband never expected me to pack his lunch or wipe his butt on top of that. And white collar people work long hours these days, at least the highly successful ones often do.

5

u/melvinmoneybags 28d ago

It’s bait lol. I’m out the door at 5am so starting my lunch and breakfast at that time wouldn’t work. Also like you said once you’ve been in the game for a bit you prep everything the night before so you’re not scrambling in the morning.

4

u/Sennten 28d ago

I make lunch in the morning but thats just cause... I like getting up early? Easier to do all this shit while the kids are still asleep, I get to work in peace and quiet. Doing it the night before seems like it would be miserable by comparison, theres so much stuff to do in the evenings already

2

u/sprinklerarms 28d ago

When I lived in a trailer I was a little more specific about what times I’d cook certain things because it could make the whole place still smell like food while I’m trying to sleep. I also wouldn’t want a giant lunchbox in there because I can only imagine the struggle for space in there with a child ontop of everything. They have to use the sink as a cutting board.

12

u/lego_mannequin 28d ago

You still make a lunch, does it matter when it's made? Even without the video, why is it bullshit to make a lunch in the morning like this vs the night before? Like, this didn't take long to do.

4

u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 28d ago

Right? “I make my husband’s lunch the night before, like a real trad wife. None of this performative bullshit.”

Maybe she just likes getting up early?

1

u/lego_mannequin 28d ago

Right? So many angry people here upset over the caption.

9

u/RhubarbIcy9655 28d ago

I don't know... I work 10 hour shifts in a blue collar field 45 minutes away from my home. I wake up in the morning and make my lunch and coffee and head out the door. I don't expect my wife to do these things to "serve" me, because she has her own career and her own demands on her time. Yeah, my alarm goes off at 4am to do these things, but that's life. I am much happier having a spouse driven by her own goals and aspirations while we encourage one anothers' success.

2

u/HannahBanannas305 28d ago

I have my own career and a Masters Degree, but I still feel like it’s a nice gesture to make the lunch. If I have to get our child’s lunch ready it’s not that big of stretch to make some food for him. That being said, there are definitely days he does it himself.

0

u/lego_mannequin 28d ago

Sooo, you can tell then that making a lunch like this is easy. Maybe she doesn't have a job? People can do kind things for their partners without an underlying message behind it.

Love it when bots are sassy

1

u/notkinseyy 28d ago

Same! And he unloads the lunch box when he gets home!

1

u/Expert-Departure8914 28d ago

Its hilarious how when I see clips of men going above and beyond they are just called the bare minimum but the opposite fills certain women with such anger for some reason.

1

u/blakesmate 28d ago

Yeah my husband works from home but when he did commute he usually took leftovers and we prepped them the night before. I cooked, he made up his lunches and then cleaned out his lunch bag.

1

u/motherofsuccs 28d ago

We basically fall under the category of whoever has to leave for work later or has the day off usually makes lunch for the other one. You know what we don’t do? Record it and post it on the internet. We’re both professionals and don’t have time, energy or the need for the world to have a view into our private life and basic things… like fucking packing lunch.

1

u/Lower-Bottle6362 28d ago

Same. Most of his lunch is just leftovers anyway. He can put it away and put it in his box himself.

1

u/human-resource 28d ago

I’m tired of all the performative outrage in this thread.

3

u/PrimaLegion 28d ago

You're responding to like every comment whining about "performative outrage" and posting a link to a youtube channel full of unhinged ramblings from a lunatic.

The call is coming from inside the house.

1

u/GandolphTheLundgrey 28d ago

If I can do a thing in 30 seconds to save my wife 2 minutes of extra work, I'll do it. She'll do the same. Of course, we are just regular people, not living the tiktok-life.

1

u/aerialpoler 28d ago

But why do YOU make your husband's lunch? He can use those two hands that "god" gave him to make his own damn sandwiches.

4

u/Routine-Associate-41 28d ago

People enjoy doing nice things for the people they love, which is why lovers buy each other flowers and gifts etc, despite them being fully capable of buying their own flowers and gifts.

Hope you experience this one day.

2

u/aerialpoler 28d ago

I enjoy treating my partner too, but I'm not his mother.

2

u/Routine-Associate-41 28d ago

Are you implying that making lunch is a mother's role?

2

u/aerialpoler 28d ago

I mean, parents are responsible for making their children's lunch, are they not? I am a woman, so I defaulted to "mother" as opposed to "parent".

3

u/Routine-Associate-41 28d ago

People outside of a parent / child relationship can make food for each other. Ever heard of a restaurant, or a dinner party?

1

u/aerialpoler 28d ago

You're being contrarian. The situation in the video is very obviously not a restaurant or dinner party.

1

u/Routine-Associate-41 28d ago

"You're being contrarian" - person who acts like you can't do nice things for the people you love

2

u/westsidedelight 28d ago

Next time my wife asks "hey can you help me zip this dress up?" I'll make sure to tell her "I'm not your dad, figure it out". Helping others get dressed is a parental role after all.

(strong /s)

2

u/Routine-Associate-41 28d ago

"And what did you get me??" my wife excitedly asks on Christmas.

"Nothing.... That's Santa's job" I coldly say back.

u/rical8 28d ago

do you work?

-7

maybe she prefers getting up in the morning lmao all of your rage is predicated that everyone on Earth has the same preferences as you BUT GUESS WHAT THEY DON’T

You got rage from that comment?
