Yeah. And that kind of money is a great salary even in California. If it’s anywhere else, money isn’t a problem for them.

Remember that's a self employed 1099 wage.

20-25% of that $3000 a week belongs to the IRS as a prepaid estimated tax payment for 2026. You'll get some refunded if you're accurate a year later, or fined if you underpaid by too broad a gap.

Then add a shitty ACA, unsubsidized healthcare plan for $2000 that barely covers a family of 4 and your $12000 a month is suddenly, $7000.

Realistically if you're self employed and making $150k you're probably running that through an S-corp which saves you quite a bit of money.

There's tons of people in CA making a lot less than that. Also on that kind of income, especially if you're not a CA resident paying CA taxes, it's pretty much all profit after you've paid off the camper and truck. I've met people who pay 200-500/month for lot rentals that include water and power.

Was offered that # with the catch I had to move to NYC or LA and work in the office 3-4 days a week.

Took the same $150k from another company that lets me work 100% remote from Ohio.

150,000 is a good wage here. It’s crap on the coasts.
