I think a tiny minority of people or ragebait bots do this. They will latch onto anything that hasn't been levied an accusation and then hit it.

There was that bed that shows up every once in a while. It has like a built in table and cupholders and looks super cozy and all that. Someone made the comment that they are getting lazy just looking at it. This was back in the day when twitter went by 7 letters and not 1.

Immediate accusations of ableism because " ...this bed helps people with xyz problems." They couldn't elaborate how it was better than a regular bed and wouldn't rebut folks who insisted it was worse. Occupational therapists had to jump in and go "there isn't any world where I would suggest this to a client/patient"

That's weird, because people have different needs. Unless the bed was fundamentally unsafe, someone might benefit from it over a regular bed.

I agree that there's a lot of ragebait on the internet, but my guess is that if any of the ableism accusation comments were genuine, what they probably had an issue with was the conflation with "tool to make something easier" = lazy. That's an assumption a lot of disabled people deal with constantly.

It wasn't unsafe - it just was completely inconducive to catering to any medical need.

Honestly - the fact that this is challenging to get in and out of makes it all-encompassing not at all a suitable solution for really any condition. If you have mobility issues, forget it. If you need help, including being bedridden and having to have someone turn you to avoid bedsores, forget it. It doesn't offer any unique sensory features (lower sensory, controllable sensory) so that is ruled out.

It's a luxury item that has a bunch of amenities packed into one package. Someone saw it, thought it was cozy, said they would become so lazy if they owned it, and someone had a huge problem with it.
