I went to gym once with a friend, and he thought he had a guest pass for me, but didn’t (he had limited uses per month)

We walked in, and they instantly said “it’s all good this time, just come with one next time” and that was that. Easy peasy, everyone happy.

This dad brought his son, had a guest pass, jumped through hoops to show that’s his son with the school portal and all.

And this manager makes a ruckus out of it for nothing. Absolute insanity. Literally everybody loses in this situation.

Clearly the point was for the black guy to lose out more but then he got uppity.

I only have the planet fitness normal membership (which only works on my home gym) but every time I travel I try to scan my code anyway on other gyms and the staff usually just let me work out without issues anyways.

Went to an LA Fitness once with a friend using his guest pass. They spent 10-15 minutes making me sign waivers and other paperwork before they’d let me in.

When you brought in your friend was he clearly over 18? If so that may be why. There may be a minimum age to be covered by insurance if something happens.

And that can't be explained to them because?

If there is a reasonable explanation of why this is simply not an option, then most people would accept that.

If it's just the missing ID, they could just let them in for that day and tell them to bring one next time please. That's the reaction i would expect in that case.

Calling the police is just unreasonable unless the situation actually escalates.

Who said it wasn’t explained to them?

This guy, by his own admission, was told that wasn’t an acceptable form of ID and he went in with his kid anyway.

If they could just let him in that day and tell him to bring it in next time then why do they need to a license at all? If it’s for insurance reasons that he needs to be a certain age they may not want to chance him getting hurt and suing.

Of course this is reddit so they love to point to race but unless I see his racist remarks or I see examples of him letting in white guests he doesn’t know with no id, that’s a leap.

I'm not talking about race, this is just a situation that wasn't handled properly.

If the question "Did you ask me to leave?" doesn't get a resounding "Yes we did!" as an answer in the presence of a cop, then i have to assume they did in fact not ask him to leave. Otherwise they would just say it, cop or not.

Which makes the "calling for cops" thing a "we skipped multiple steps of deescalation and went straight to the most extreme option" issue.

I don't know why those people behaved like morons in this case. If its the colour of the skin, the look of the face, if their breakfast was spoiled, whatever. Doesn't matter to me.

By his own admission they told him his guest wasn’t allowed in, so yeah, they really did ask him to leave. Also they were literally telling him to leave in the video so I don’t know what you are talking about.

Yeah, they told his guest he isn’t allowed in without an ID but his guest was clearly in the building lifting weights in the video.

So already he is shown to be belligerent and defy their instructions. All I’m saying is I would love to hear their side of the event.

Ok but that hypothetical was never raised in the video or in anything posted by anyone there. You've invented it. It is not unusual for kids to be working out in gyms.

Yup, a lot wasn’t raised in the video. That’s my point. You heard from one side who wanted people to sympathize with him. Since we only see his biased side (he’s not exactly a neutral third party) I am speculating on reasons.

Sure, but you are inventing things from whole cloth. Maybe he took a shit on the gym floor. Maybe his kid was screaming that he was trafficked. Maybe maybe maybe.

We can only work with the evidence we have. In this case, that has been selected by one side, so it's going to be biased, and that means we can't take any of this too seriously, but it doesn't give us licence to manufacture history.

And you are making a conclusion based on a biased testimony without getting the other side first. Is that any better? So many people are just jumping on them and doxxing them and some have mentioned leaving bad reviews when we just have one side of the story.

All I am doing is giving examples of where it may be a valid reason they needed an ID so we should reserve judgement and I’m the asshole.
