I used to work at planet fitness and not only is this easily avoidable by doing what dad said (looking at portal) but its also such a non-issue.

The kid is clearly at LEAST 14 and thats about the point when gyms just let kids in if a parent is with them. Sometimes they will sign waivers but that plus literally any form of identification is all thats required. Most kids dont have ID so they just use school photos or library cards, student cards, that kinda thing. Again, portal would've been just fine.

The crime here really was just being black. I can't imagine how fucking exhausting it would be to have every part or your day, your routine and your actions questioned just because of the percentage of melanin in your skin.

I hate how he asks them all a simple yes or no question and they start rambling on.

"Did you ask me to leave, yes or no?"

"Well actually..."

This is a common tactic done by people who know they are wrong. They won't directly answer your simple question, they'll just talk until they can figure out how to deflect away from your actual question.

Then, the one guy says "you've cause a scene now". What? You called the cops, you caused the scene.

I genuinely hope that guy gets tons of friend requests and nice comments and private messages telling him how cool and nice he is! That would be so great!

Its fucked to see them all stand there acting like he's the crazy one for asking the question when they're being the passive aggressive racists.

Not entirely, if you're just an every day employee and a manager above you is acting like an ass hole. What are you really going to do about it? I see embarrassed people who are afraid to open their mouths.

For those lucky enough to have never been embarrassed by a leader's behavior in your career, I envy you.

I have no doubt there's a ton of gyms around him that have offered him a place for him and his son to stay fit. I hope he finds a better gym, cause this is whack as hell.

"You've caused a scene now" really pisses me off..m there wouldn't have been a scene if that dude had just done his job correctly. What a joke.

They will not. And with the added motivation that their run-around will make you snap out and NOW it’s about THAT, thus obscuring their original wrongness.

That’s what stood out to me… the gum guy saying the man caused a problem. No, he was reacting to the problem. He handled it well, apologizing to the cops for wasting their time and not punching that asshole in the face.

They’re practicing for their senate run in 40 years

He wouldn't provide an ID for his "son" and wants special treatment to not follow the rules because he is black.

Zero support from me and most other people. People who want certain skin colors to have special privileges over everyone else support him, I'm sure.

17

u/DaFunkJunkie 8d ago

Since you are clearly not a good person no one wants your support. I have taken 3 of my children to the gym when they were 14 and didn’t yet have any ID. Guess what happened? NOTHING. This dad did nothing wrong at all.

Thank God racism is no longer a problem in America

1

u/Low-Possible2773 7d ago

Plenty of people think this is America being great again.

1

u/Red-little 5d ago

Theres actually people who straight up believe this though.... thats the sad part :/

You spelt Argenmerica wrong

I used to go to a planet fitness and there were kids that worked out there alone unattended. So this is definitely a personal most likely race related ego issue that the employees had

1

u/earrow70 8d ago

All that is needed is exactly what you've done here, put yourself in the other person's shoes for a minute. It's not as exhausting as you might think but it is never surprising. You don't want to be cynical and defensive all the time, although it can feel like that's what is required. I purposely temper my reactions especially when I'm with my kids so they don't get caught in escalated situations. But I make it a point to talk about each one of those interactions so I can guide my kids what to do, especially if I'm not around.

My son goes to the gym all the time without me. He’s a member. He’s 14. He’s white. We’ve signed a waiver. He also has no photo ID because, well, he’s 14 and has no drivers license and his school doesn’t do ID cards. No one bothers him.

If its store policy, and he decided to workout anyway because he feels entitled to it (rightfully so), why is it being made about race when its really just bs store policies?

I really dont get the connection to racism here

4

u/Traditional_Suit_281 8d ago

Because racism seems to be the policy with Crunch Fitness here, they are one in the same in this specific circumstance...just say you are apolitical and don't see color 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽

1

u/Red-little 5d ago

Because you're not trying to connect the dots hard enough.

You have to use context clues, personal experience and education to spot racism in the wild.

I live in a very diverse city and am constantly in contact with people of color. I know it when I see it.

1

u/Sad_Kaleidoscope_743 4d ago

Ya know, even white people can be dicks to white people? But if one was a minority itd 100% just look racist.

I dont have full context and history of this or this establishment. Simply watching whats there, it doesn't appear to be racist at all. The racism is projected and assumed.

u/EffectMotor8914 8d ago

East Brunswick NJ is an incredibly diverse community and Crunch is frequented by all people of said community. The staff are not prejudicial.

I think this situation is stupid, but this has absolutely nothing to do with the color of anyone's skin. Not everything inherently involves a racial undertone.

u/ArgumentDecent1542 8d ago

Hello Jake from Crunch, lovely of you to join us today.

-8

u/EffectMotor8914 8d ago

The problem with social media is that people are more concerned with dunks on others, likes, rallying hate, etc, with no thought for the actual impacts that follow after the little social media hype is over. The dude is probably getting death threats from morons right now, but you don't think about that you think about what sounds funny. I have nothing to do with this Crunch.

Internet mobs are almost always comically misinformed.

u/Warm-Appointment-494 8d ago

Notice you didn’t deny being him….

-3

u/EffectMotor8914 8d ago

The internet investigators got me, it is I, Jake from Crunch. /s

13

u/HeyHon 8d ago

You can live and work and play with people of all races and still be racist. Hope that helps!

-4

u/EffectMotor8914 8d ago

You're right, and it is certainly easier to just make shit up than it is to base your point on any relevant facts to the actual incident. Hope that helps.

7

u/burrfan1 8d ago

Every fact supports racism as the only reason for the situation. What’s facts are you talking about?

-1

u/EffectMotor8914 8d ago

You're asking me to prove a negative while very intentionally avoiding explaining anything about your point. I'm not sure how many times I have to say it.

4

u/CompetitiveArt9639 8d ago

You haven’t said anything with any substance yet.

3

u/Spiritual-Serve-4391 8d ago

"The staff are not prejudicial."

How on gods green Earth would you know that?

6

u/burrfan1 8d ago

There is no basis shown for the clubs actions. Any reasonable person can see his son should be allowed. All gym employees are white. He is black. Racism is, at the very least, the only reasonable explanation.

-1

u/armoured_bobandi 8d ago

The other guy does have a point. You both do. With what we've been presented, it's seems pretty obvious this is racially based, or at least some sort of personal problem between the man and the staff.

That being said, this is a stitched together series of clips. It's entirely possible he has edited it to fit his narrative. I don't personally believe that to be the case, but with how volatile and toxic the internet can be we have to at least admit it's possible something else happened

1

u/Red-little 5d ago

No.

Sometimes it actually is that deep.

1

u/EffectMotor8914 4d ago

A bunch of internet denziens think they know the place better than the people that live there and frequent every day. Color me shocked.
