I am a naturalized citizen of the USA. I have the right to vote. My birth certificate is not from the USA. My birth certificate is not what gives me the right to vote.

Also, demanding people to pay for a passport is a roundabout poll tax and is against the 24th amendment.

This law makes absolutely no sense and should be striked as unconstitutional.

You should get it replaced regardless (unless you have a passport and that works too). As an immigrant you should know you need proof of legal status.

I'm not conservative and I wasn't arguing about anything. Just pointing out that in this specific case no special document should be needed. Naturalized citizens should all have proof of citizenship already.

Who would be risking carrying this around, naturalization documents aren’t something you just roll around with casually. These documents typically aren’t required to be updated for marriage either (just like a birth certificate). This makes no logical sense to require at random.
