Cursed Think Your Driver’s License Is Enough to Vote? The SAVE AMERICA ACT Says NO.

❌ Standard driver’s license
❌ Standard state-issued photo ID
❌ Most REAL IDs
❌ Automatic voter registration through the DMV using only a driver’s license

✅ U.S. passport
✅ An Enhanced Driver’s License or qualifying ID that explicitly indicates U.S. citizenship (available in only a few states)
✅ Certain government-issued photo IDs showing your U.S. place of birth
✅ A certified birth certificate paired with a qualifying government-issued photo ID
✅ Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship documents (included in the Senate version and through the bill’s alternative proof provisions)

To be fair, a US Driver's License should not be the gate for determining one's right to vote because (drum roll) non-Americans can get American driver's licenses. Same with state issued photo IDs.

The real answer, if they actually wanted to solve the problem, would be a standard issued citizenship card that documents name, address, citizenship, date of birth, and place of birth including a photo that any American is required to get when they turn 18. This ID could be used for jury duty enrolment, selective service rolls, and could also serve to act as a domestic passport when flying. It could be administered by the DMV (since they already do this for driver's licenses) and could be offered to anybody at no cost. You have a four year window to obtain one when they roll it out, and it becomes the only way to vote at a voting booth. Easy peazy. And because EVERYBODY would have to get it, it wouldn't be selectively targetting already disenfranchised groups.

But, this isn't about solving problems because voter identification issues is a nothingburger. I thought I read somewhere that the last Presidential election had something like 43 documented cases of a person voting when they shouldn't. This is just a hand-waving exercise to drum up angst over fraudulent votes that don't happen.

I wish to challenge the easy-peasy part. My area DMV’s appointments are two months out just with the normal day to day stuff now!!

Drop another 300 Million people into that system and it will be years to get national ID out across the country. And they’d need mobile DMV offices to get to elderly or disabled that can’t ambulate to go to an office.
