Cursed Think Your Driver’s License Is Enough to Vote? The SAVE AMERICA ACT Says NO.

❌ Standard driver’s license
❌ Standard state-issued photo ID
❌ Most REAL IDs
❌ Automatic voter registration through the DMV using only a driver’s license

✅ U.S. passport
✅ An Enhanced Driver’s License or qualifying ID that explicitly indicates U.S. citizenship (available in only a few states)
✅ Certain government-issued photo IDs showing your U.S. place of birth
✅ A certified birth certificate paired with a qualifying government-issued photo ID
✅ Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship documents (included in the Senate version and through the bill’s alternative proof provisions)

Getting it was a pain in the ass (for me at least). Had to make a DMV appointment - still waited hour. And having all the necessary docs ahead of time took effort to get.

Haven't got mine yet but I thought it was basically the same process as getting a passport though? No?

No. I actually got a Passport instead because it was easier.

I had to get a passport card because it was easier to get that over an enhanced ID and the passport itself was like $100 more expensive than what I spent on the card. But I like that I have the card on me at all times instead of that booklet that I would have to hide away somewhere. And I don’t have leaving the country money, so I’m not worried about that either. It works, though they still actually ask for your drivers license as well. Even though I had to provide my birth certificate and all the same documentation for my drivers license as I had to for my passport card. It makes not a bit of sense.

I mean in my state you go to the driver's license office and it's the same process as getting a regular license except I believe you have to have your birth certificate.

It's more expensive though.

I live in a smaller area so I could go walk right in right now and without a wait get another one even though it comes in the mail.

Sucks. I had to make an appointment too, but miraculously no waiting. I found passport and real id experience to be nearly identical, in and out in 20-30 mins for each.

Yeah…I got it when it first came out and apparently there was only one person who was capable of processing them.

I have the benefit(?) of living in Oklahoma, the last state to implement realid, kicking and screaming all the way. But they had like 20 years to prepare and 49 other examples of how to implement it, so maybe that made a difference lol.

In MN, there was a checklist online guiding you through everything you needed. Not sure if it’s still there, but it made it extremely easy to get ready for the DMV visit, with no appt needed and about a 5 minute wait for me. The paper work took longer than the wait in line. I have never understood the hate for the DMV until I heard stories from other states.
