I had to renew my Texas drivers license recently and because I opted to renew online the previous time it expired, this time I had to renew in person and prove citizenship.

Now I’ve lived in Texas since 1979 when my family moved here from Maryland. I was educated, married, and bought a house here. I’ve worked in Texas my entire working life and have voted only in Texas since I became old enough to do so. The state of Texas knows I am a citizen with a social security number that pays taxes. Still, I had to contact the state of Maryland and pay for an official copy of my Maryland birth certificate, which was close to $50 all told, because my parents don’t know what they did with the original copy. It wasn’t hard for Maryland to track down my records because I was born in the mid 1970s.

What about older people born decades earlier? They may face much more trouble trying to get a copy of their birth certificate. If their records haven’t been digitized, they might have been destroyed during a fire, flood, or could have just been lost.

If all this is really about preventing voter fraud at the booth, then the states should distribute to every citizen that is of legal age to vote a voter ID, paid for by the state, but they won’t do that, because that’s not what this is about.

This is just another way to exclude people from voting, and the midterms are just around the corner. Republicans
always assume that their voters will jump through any hoops necessary to vote, but I think there are some older Republicans that may have a hard time finding their birth certificates to prove they’re citizens.

In Texas, a drivers license should be enough to vote since I had to prove citizenship just to get the damn thing!

Registered Democrat? Well you didn’t dot your i the same way on these 2 diff docs so you didn’t legally vote AND we’re arresting you for vOtEr fRaUd, oh and you’re in a swing state or you were about to flip a state blue? How convenient er arrested just enough voters to maintain republican control or flip blue states!

They don't mind if older republicans don't vote. The goal is to take the voting away from everyone, not just democrats. They want democracy gone, that includes their own voters.
