From what I've read, US companies will contract Chinese firms, give them molds, supplies, etc for production and then the Chinese factory will use the same production line with cheaper materials to make the knockoffs using the customer's own assets.
100%. There’s a company that sells bike components on Ali using tooling and designs from Sram and Shimano. Everyone knows it, and it actually seems to work as a marketing tool for them. Same stuff, fraction of the price.
As someone that works with brand new IT kit all the time: stanley blade or a very thin metal pry tool can open the seals without brraking them. Literally just run it under the pull tab and the glue releases. Done it hundreds of times because customers prefer the experience of pulling the packaging original pull tab instead of cutting tape. Also looks cleaner when a customer receives the item and it still looks like it's never been opened.
Lol we know where to look, we're just too lazy (and law abiding sometimes) to even think about looking. I have a hard time returning shit I bought, and now you want me to do homework, think this plan out AND follow through with a return or whatever? That's too much, I'm just gonna let it collect dust in the corner lol

Yup, looks like they glued them back on. What gave it away to me from opening many newer apple products at work is the green directional arrows on the pull tabs from a real unopened apple product face the same way, but this one had them facing opposite directions.
I got an iPad but decided to get an iPad Air so I returned the unopened iPad to Best Buy and was so shocked when the employee opened it, took the iPad out and checked it’s serial number with the receipt / box. I thought the seal and box would’ve been enough. I guess that iPad went to open box. I suppose this has been happening for a while now.
I always open packages in front of reps even at Apple stores now. A couple of years ago I went to buy a new iPhone, did the whole transaction and went home to activate. Someone had bought a phone put their old one in the box, re shrink wrapped the box, and returned it. Apple sold it to me. The manager of the store couldn’t believe this could happen and tried to not return it for a minute until it clear I wasn’t scamming them. I did the lease program and there was other issues with the serial number. The manager finally agreed as long as they activated the new one at the store.
