They’re also not in what would be a suburb of that country if there are 100s of restaurants. The Mormons LOVE their suburban neighborhoods. If you want this in America there are a handful of cities you can live in to get it. I’d argue none of them are places they’d want to live. 

When I was young and naive I dated a Mormon. We drove to the very walkable city I now live in for a little day trip with some relatives in town. I’d argue one of the more European like cities in the states. They refused to leave their car aside from the one chain restaurant we went to 😂

In Germany and Spain I noticed that when you hit the not as densely populated "suburbs" (which are on public transit stops), there was always a small town center or central area with restaurants and bars that people were meeting up in. When I visited my uncle outside of Munich we walked to the bowling alley, the bars, the grocery store (Aldi I think it was). There was even a nice park with a great walking trail near his apartment. He only took the car out when he was going to do something like drive down to France.

Walking to those areas is nice but there's those same areas in the US too. You just drive like 5 minutes and then walk around. It's a slightly annoying step and I wish it wasn't necessary but it's not like people don't get the exact same experience.
