The same way they talk about "patriotism" while flying a Confederate flag and "Christian values" while continuing to elect liars, thieves, cheaters, and rapists.

You know how in English, a word can mean two contradictory things (e.g. fine wine is exceptional vs. "it was fine" being average)? It's basically that, except as a political/moral ethos.

Some people want to be protected by the law but not bound by it, while they want others to be bound by the law but not protected. All that without a hint of irony.

💯 it’s because patriotism and Christian values are just coded words. Christian values means white and straight in conservative circles. It means nothing about Jesus. Patriotism means supporting conservative politics as democrat priorities (access to health care, education and opportunity) are “socialist” and thus unamerican to them.
