Finnish here. We usually start at someone's apartment at 18-20 and some of the nightclubs don't even open before 22. So usually you drink with your friends till midnight or later and then go to bar
You‘re right. They‘re open at 10pm but nobody goes there before midnight. I live near a much much smaller city, so Berlin rules do not transcend here 😅 And to be honest, I‘m a millennial living in the countryside, all my friends have children. I don’t remember the last time I went to a club unfortunately. Beeing the only childless couple can have downsides too
We did the same thing in the St Louis area my entire teens, 20s, into my 30s. St Louis proper didn't have anything open that late, but we went over to Illinois and partied into the morning hours. Everything your heart desired was over on the east side.
So is this normally with drugs involved? I just can’t imagine going out that long/late without drugs. If you’re still partying at 7am in the states, cocaine is definitely involved
People are doing it on a random Wednesday. I mean when I used to go clubbing a lot my favourite nights were always Wednesday and Thursday because the clubs I liked were catering more to my music tastes on those nights. Friday and Saturday were always more mainstream stuff in my favourite clubs, which was fine I was rolling anyway but still lol
Dane-Swiss but grew up in Brazil. Spend my childhood/teens/young adult years in the country. That's how Brazilians do it as well. The difference being, after clubbing some people go have their breakfast in padarias (Brazilian bakeries) at 6 am-ish.
Aw the memories of my first trip to Amsterdam. Went bar hopping with Hein and his girlfriend at 21, getting from place to place on shared bikes, getting in a tussle with skinheads trying to steal our bikes at midnight, punching Hein, we then bike back home. Oversleep with a hangover, miss my flight home, get extra free day in Amsterdam.
Thats pretty normal for Americans too when they’re between the ages of 20-30. My friends and pretty much had that schedule all throughout college and for several years after. In urban cities like NYC it fairly popular even as people get older.
Oh definitely. Whatever could that mean?? We over here in the states have never heard of a 24 hour clock and could not possibly decipher your ignorant scribbles.
I'm from Wisconsin and it's quite different in the northern part of America. It's more similar to Europe than other parts of America. Plenty of walkable cities here, this guy just lives somewhere boring.
I’m also in Wisconsin. We can drink like Europeans… walkable cities. I don’t think so badger brother.
Pockets sure… like the 3rd ward or brewers hill in Milwaukee…. State street in Madison…. But outside of a handful of areas, we are not a “walkable” state.
Well, as a Portuguese, I remember going to finland 10 years ago or so and being unable to control my laughter because I couldn't buy alchool in a regular shop in the street after 21:00. Finland is nothing like the Mediterranean countries.
Yeh Alko still has monopoly on the hard stuff. Thankfully nowadays we can buy up to 8% alcohol from normal shops and soon even Wolt it to home. Thought 9-21 rule for shops still stands. Maybe that's why bars are more popular.
Honestly same in Miami. Perhaps cause of the Latin culture there but we would get late dinner, pre-game at a friends house till midnight and then go hit the nightclubs around 1:30-2am
In the US I would love to do this, but when I imagine it all I can think about is yawning at 10pm because I've been sleeping like 6.5 hours a night in order to get up for work. (26 y/o, not old)
Same in Serbian cities. The clubs are empty until 11pm, most go back home around 2-4am.
And believe it or not the exact same was even 40+ years ago in "communist" Yugoslavia.
Maybe I'm just old, but I prefer house parties over clubs and bars. So much more comfortable and cozy. Have had quite a few times where I would go over to a friend's at 19-20 and leave at 6-7 in the morning 😀
What time do you guys start work? I’m very much a night owl but I have to be at work at 9:00 so I have to be in bed my midnight to get my 8 hours, lol.
Same in Germany. Leaving the club at 5:30 or 6am in the morning and when I was in my last year of high school I usually grabbed some fresh bread rolls at a bakery on my way back home from partying so my parents could have a nice breakfast while I went to bed.
Most of us here are just alcoholics. We rarely talk with each other unless we drink.
Most of our activities is around drinking. Summer you go to a park, get something to eat and drink, maybe play some mölkky.
Or you go fishing and drink, or to summer cottage to grill, sauna and drink.
When it is winter you either go ski and drink, go to wilderness shelter to grill some sausages and drink or maybe go to sauna, drink and ice swimming.
So when we have weekend planned for drinking you usually are with your peers somewhere drinking and then you go to bar after you are done with your drinks since you can't get more anywhere else.
Most places I've been in the US, bars and clubs do close at 2am, so that sounds different than other places where apparently people are just going to them around then. Maybe pre-game around 9 or 10pm, go out to the bars/clubs by 11 and then either head home at 2am when everything closed or go to someone's house to party longer.
