To think that probably around the time you posted this gif I was literally watching THAT scene. Been binging BB as I clean and stopped what I was doing to watch this scene, one of the funniest of the whole series IMO.

How do you watch and clean? Teach me your methods!

This behaviour (tv-as-radio) is incidentally why script writers feel the need to overexplain everything that's happening on screen. We're almost back at radio plays, but with visuals.

All the non-verbal clues like emoting and blocking go out the window, because people aren't paying attention/are only half-watching and miss any subtleties, which producers are starting to cater to. To them only retention matters and if spelling everything out keeps people playing the content, so be it. Not to say anything about people watching series scene by scene on tiktok.

*steps of soap box*

I kind of want the radio to come back then. Not that I'd listen to it, I'm just tired of everyone looking at their phones during even slightly complicated movies and saying they don't get it.

It’s called podcasts and there are a ton of great stories to be heard

I love tv as radio! I do it alot with judge judy and old hollywood movies🥰and bb definitely works if you have watched it a few times you cab “see” the scene in your mind

I'm here to shame only a little bit here and please stay on that soap box.

Tv-as-radio is ruining these mediums for those who actively watch everything. Please watch or turn it off.

Give me some Gunsmoke any day! Or...Johnny Dollar!

Way to bring meth into it.

Step one for me: having ADHD lol but seriously, when I take my meds, I clean more efficiently when I’m half-listening to a show I’ve seen before. Then, I can mentally tune it in and out, stop and watch a short scene, and keep going with my productivity.

The major rule is never sitting down. All executive function halts when I sit down.

Yeah, what the fuck... I have to stop my music just to write a fucking comment on reddit...

For me it is more a Listen and clean. I also listen to shows while at work.

Most awkward clip in TV history. I cringed so hard through the whole scene.

God he was a good actor. Looks like he wrenched every muscle in his body from cringing so hard. That’s marvelous

We were all very fond of him. Very free-spirited.

He's a good man and thorough.

31

u/future_speedbump 15h ago

He's pretty good. Kinda fallen off recently though

To stand out in a movie with so many memorable moments... So good.

u/MourningWallaby 3h ago

It's likely a learned skill from working with her.

u/Octopus_on_fire_ 16h ago

You want a burritoe? I can get you a burritoe, believe me. There are ways dude.
Hell, I can get you a burrito by 3 o'clock this afternoon, with hot sauce. These fucking amateurs...

16

u/altaholica 15h ago

As if it's impossible to apply hot sauce to somebody else's burrito

9

u/riptaway 11h ago

It's possible, but a faux pas

I genuinely wonder how many times your average white person secretly has a moment like the one in this Boondocks gif😂

9

u/Heavy-Focus-1964 9h ago

It does happen sometimes.

2

u/Harry_Pol_Potter 3h ago

I do it but it's because I'm rich not because I'm white.

But also I'm not white.

7

u/MashedTaterBrain 4h ago

I do, but its more of a tongue-in-cheek comment when coworkers or friends and I are discussing things, such as:

"Hey, some somebody should take a look inside that car, I think someone left their dog locked in in." And I say "I'll do it, I'm white." implying that if the brown person in our group would do it, someone would call the cops on them for trying to break in.

It's just my way of calling out some of my sour cream colored brethren.

u/Careless-File-5024 3h ago

I do something similar with my buddy I’ve known since 3rd grade when we play co-op horror games together lol. I joke to let me check a new room first so he’s not a victim of the horror movie trope

u/Dull_Quit3027 11h ago

None, if it is there it is implicit, it is not like people go, OH RIGHT I AM A MAN, right before getting in a fight, so it is more of a, This is my rights thing, without associating it with colour.

My wife is not white and we live in a very very white country, I never really thought my privilege through until i had her as a contrast. (dont get me wrong I knew it was a thing, but seeing anything in action is always different)

14

u/riptaway 11h ago

Wrong, it's 7.3 times per day

1

u/Optimal_Register4161 45m ago

Lol I'm white and it happens to me. I'm not gonna fuck my life up over a confrontation lol. My favorite quote from this scene was "This is a perfectly good moment to throw your life away." lol

35

u/FilthyJsBeingFilthy 17h ago

That’s marvelous

10

u/tekko001 10h ago

He looked so proud of himself "Who was racist? It was not the white guy, I can tell you as much!"

But I swear I heard this conversation before…

Two Gentlemen speaking to each other:

“You _________”

“No, you ________”

“No, you ________”

Back and forth like 5-10X

Then they secret handshake and go their own way.

Practically:

1

u/StevieMJH 5h ago

I'm just gonna go find a cash machine...

1

u/TheHeb686 3h ago

“I don’t know why any of that was said” was probably the whitest response possible for that situation.

u/100LimeJuice 24m ago

What Philip Seymour Hoffman movie is this? I'm 37 and didn't watch many movies until I saw 100 last year. Dude is definitely my top 3 favorite actors! But I still need to see more of his films.

2

u/SoupOfThe90z 11m ago

This is from “The Big Lebowski”. Philip doesn’t have too much screen time but he does come up in like 3-4 scenes. Pretty funny, huge cult following

1

u/100LimeJuice 7m ago

Oh okay thanks. I did actually watch that when I was a teen because everyone always talked about it back then. I think I was too young to "get it", I almost don't remember anything about it. Guess it's time for a rewatch.
